LukeStur Ok here's a brief initial report of my VLM today. Started with the great 2.45 pacer guy on fgfa start. We lost a bit of time in traffic in the first mile but had made it up by mile 3 and were ticking over nicely at 6.15 pace. Felt very comfortable banging out 19.30 5ks and passed halfway at 1.22.32. Still felt good up to about 22m which was amazing (usually wheels come off around 18m!). Hung onto the pacer for a couple more miles then fom 24 m he just started slipping away. Just couldn't rally myself as legs were cramping and felt like I was just hanging on. The dream of sub 2.45 was slipping through my aching calves. Rounded into the mall as 2.45 appeared on the clock and I managed a sort of sprint finish to at least get a time with 2.45 in it. Ended up with 2.45.54 and a10 min PB. Close but no cigar although pretty pleased with my effort.

hannkies Brilliant event, will be back. Time outside what I wanted but hay, thats 4 sub 3's on the bounce so can't be too downhearted and I ain't getting any younger. 2nd fastest Marathon to date, struggled majorly with the heat after halfway but all in a great day. Topped it off with a trip to the Emirates for the Gunners v Liverpool game.

Halvedin3 Injury in March combined with yet another hot race probably ruined my chances. Went for goal pace early on and was feeling good until 15 miles, then struggled quite a bit. Pace slowed mile by mile and was slower by 45sec/mile in last 2-3 miles. Tried so hard to get even 1 second under PB, but in the end I was happy to make it to the end. Gave it everything I had, but that wasn't enough. Lessons learned for next time. Interesting to have been to such a dark place during the race. Proud to have kept going and not walked.

Peacey Tough day in the heat not that the heat was the problem, knee & calf cramp scuppered a PB from18m, from 22m the PB was gone so enjoyed the last 4m and jogged home in 3.03 and another GFA. To be honest i think my time reflects where my training was, not enough volume due to the knee, Fair result.
Line drawn under it and we move on. Always another day.

Club place after I failed in the ballot, training hard, feeling good (as of 31st January 2011).

Crashed and burned horribly today, just too damned hot and crowded. Everything was going well until 17 miles when the wheels came off.

Felt like dropping out loads of times during miles 22 to 25 but pig headedness got me through to the end, albeit over 16 minutes behind my target. At least I managed to lower my pb by 5 minutes and run in just ahead of Dwight Yorke so got about 30 seconds of tv coverage as well!

Prof Disco Dean It's all on the day and this certainly was not mine, at 1.28 halfway I didn't really feel my legs had it in me and then i got a stitch and nearly gave up at 16 but carried on some how? Dont think I was the only one that found it tough going in the heat
With quite a few people collapsing and being sick I was glad to finish in one piece :$

burroughs First marathon that went disaterous when i got to 18-20 m iles through fault of my own, dident train right and only ever run to 15 miles. I took it on short notice but it was in memory of a mates brother who died of luekemia at the age of 23 so couldent say no. I am now with benfleet running club and running much better with less weight on me and training hoiw you are supposed to for a marathon with the help of a very helpful marathon coach (karl cadman) and club members to beat my time

WACA Last month of training is going to be critical after doing 2.12.20 at Hull 20 miler today. Anything can happen and probably will!*** well anything did happen, i.e., bronchitis and antibiotics and heyfever due to early rapeseed flowering 2 weeks b4. How inconsiderate. Jibbed at 15 miles, totally buggered. At least didn't need help and got back to finish fine and enjoyed family w/e away. Guess sometimes things don' happen the way you planned them:-)

Didn't go well. Manages 3hr pace to half way, but it felt fast. Fell apart in 2nd half, struggled with heat. 40 secs slower than my pb. But GFA time for next year...

All the training has gone as planned, feeling good and strong. 3:15 is acheivable, but would be nice to get sub 3:10 for the good for age time. Good luck everyone! TEL2 GFA, not good, just old! Eleventh Marathon. Doing my damnedest to get under 4hrs just one last time!

What a bummer! Thought 5 hrs gfa time for 2012 was a gimmee, then calf conked out at 9 miles. Walked next 17 and clocked 6.07.02 just behind the two-man bus that overtook me on the line! Now I've got just three months to qualify and Shakespeare and Edinburgh are full. Left with Cork or Wales! Help!!!

Satrted off a little too fast looking back at it now
but felt goog and was more than 9mins up overall
on pace after 12 mile,
The heat took its toll around 14 mile and the pace
dropped off to just over 7 min miles until 17,
then felt very drained of energy. Managed to keep the pace under 8 min miles until 22 and the rest was just making to the end. Was pleased to hold the pace at
around 8.20 until the finsh line and with the buffer
I created over the first half was able to cross the

oprah Brilliant! So worth the five year wait to run. I had none of the reported problems with race bottlenecks, and minimal congestion after mile 3. I started on the blue start way at the back, and still only took 6 minutes to cross. I missed my husband at a few of the points we'd agreed because the crowds were so deep. Beat my PB by 32 minutes, and a new half marathon PB as well - 2:03:25. I'm so sad that I may have to wait another 10 years to be able to run again!

Garden City Rick DNF. I sprained my ankle 2 weeks before. I was strapped up for a week. Then some easy training runs seemed OK so I decided to go ahead. Even in the first 10k I realised that it was harder than it should be. I'd decided it was not worth it and pulled out at about 13 miles.

Stevierobbo Had covered 430 miles plus of training since January. And based on solid results at Trimpell and East Hull i was looking for 3.30.
On looking back my expectations were too high. 1st ever road Marathon, 1st time VLM, my inexperience of this event, particularly the sheer No of people running it and my lack of knowledge in getting a good start position. Started in Pen 3, should have pushed in much nearer the front of the start.
I won't be back for this one, but I am still looking for a good Marathon time in an Autumn Marathon

cmcgui19 Almost 5 mins off pace at halfway - 1.54.XX - Struggled getting through the crowds, tried to stay patient. Slowed at 23 - few walking breaks through last couple of drinks stations - ran last 1.5 miles.

Hotter than I would have liked - approx 20c max - took on a lot of water - almost every station - pouring half over my head.

Took gels at 6, 11, 16 and 20 - maybe could have taken 1 or 2 more?

Debbie G Race prediction went out of the window when I saw the weather forecast but I still thought 4:30 was possible until severe calf cramp at 18 miles meant a long run/walk to the finish - still a fab day with lots of brilliant Stow Strider performances from the 2 coachloads of runners & supporters that went down to London.

Many thanks for the super Fetchpoint support :-)

Dee VanCity It was hot, and started to get painful around mile19. I persevered and kept telling myself to just keep running and got there in the end. I'm very pleased I managed to hang on for a sub 4 finish.

Zeb Deferred from last year's ballot due to broken ankle. Hoping ankle doesn't cause any problems with training.

Felt good until 14 miles, dug in for next couple but then resorted to run/walk. Really pleased with this though considering the amount of time I've had to train.

Feet bit blistered but really enjoyed this.

espaceman kept going upto 16 miles at just under 4 hr pace. started walking and my knees were hurting like hell. jogged a little but my calf muscle kept on pulling. got to 25 miles ,threw away the 2 drinks bottles that i had. managed to run the rest of the way. 600m to go i sped up. passed loads of people. 400m to go sped up a bit more. turned into the home straight and almost managed a sprint. saw someone coming up on my left and gave it even more . about 40m to go and i started running out of steam.

Grumpy fella First time I've done a marathon and the atmosphere was incredible. Couldn't deal with the heat so any plan went out the window. But I loved every single minute of it. Fetchpoint was incredible.

Toks Definitely a pb of 16 mins of my last marathon :-) so happy :-) This race was a tale of two halves for me. The first half was quick and ran almost all of it but the second half was quite slow, it was hot, and really slowed me down, my blisters feet were so bad I could hardly run on it so I powered walk most of the half and really tried my best to run. All in all, I always feel on a high when I do this local race of mine . I saw my members of my church, my family giving my hugs by mile 6 and Samuel little face was so confused as to ask where is mummy going (he will soon learn that his mummy is a nutter saw lots of neighbours from my flat, screaming and waving at me the little children's high-five just makes my heart melt, they are so lovely. Approaching 13/22 mile is just something to savour, I love it so much, I was waving my fetch top like a crazy woman possessed so that they can see me and when they did, the biggest cheer ever, I wish they can all run the race with me lol. Even though my feet was killing me I was happy to take all the atmosphere in. I just wish I can get in the ballot for next year. Bring on next year . There is so much to say About this special race. Thanks for reading :-)

Meglet First marathon (Edin Moonwalk doesn't really count, just added for the points!). Aiming to get round and think sub-5 highly unlikely.

Gym-Rat What a fantastic day, weather was perfect, bit to hot perhaps got a bit burned across my shoulders. The day from start to finish was just amazing, I'll never forget it for as long as I live, people on the route were great cheering you on when your legs were just giving up. I just couldn't have had a better 50th birthday, Mum. Dad, Gina & Nick, Sam & Vicky were all there to cheer me on, it just an amazing day, a I'll never forget. I nearly broke down when I phoned to tell Tracie

Wazelle the Gazelle Oh dear. Shocking. It went horribly wrong. Gippy tummy. Very hot. I now am like a shivery lobster due to the sun. That counts as a personal worst! Even the Garmin was disgusted and went onto auto pause at times.
