AD got my rejection from London so off to a city I prefer, for my first ever marathon!
loved it!! sneaked home in just under 3 hours so absoluely delighted. Was on track for a 2:50 but a combination of heat and lack of experience found me out. Had to sprint like bugger to finish under 3. A great experience will do more

MartyK I set off at a fair pace as I had a plan to aim for a 4hr time and just see how I got on. That plan was to get to 14miles by the 2hr mark and then see if I could do 10min miles the rest of the way. I made it to 14miles bang on 2hrs, having only had to stop for 30secs at about mile 11 to sort out my eyes as it was starting to heat up significantly by then and the sweat running into my eyes was making it impossible to see. I managed to make it to mile 16 before having to walk, but after that my legs ran out of energy and it was so difficult to keep any kind of momentum. I knew that the 4hr mark wasn't going to happen, so I just took my time and walked a fair bit, averaging about 12min miles. I stuffed my face with sweets at fetchpoint (which I really needed) and soon after, they kicked in and I was able to up the pace again to 9:30 min miles for the last 2, so I sprinted over the line in just under 4:20. I would have liked a faster time, but considering the heat and my severe lack of training, i'm happy enough with this. Thanks a million to everyone supporting and those at fetchpoint, you're all stars!

Hip still troublesome despite mega rest / physio / NSAIDs etc.
Anyone want my number?
Update 16/5/10
Think I'll try and use it as a training run - got the number so might as well - Hip still giving me jip but what the hell!
Update 24/5/10
Oops! can barely walk today due to very respectable time yesterday - despite the heat and lack of 20 milers AND dodgy hip felt fab and happy enough when crossing line - now need to get a decent 4-6 month training in prior to next year!

MudMeanderer That was hell. I was comfortable up until about 10miles, managing a few seconds ahead of predicted pace. After that the heat just started to destroy me, and whilst vaguely on target up to half way (roughly 1.40 for the first half), I just crumbled, ending up horribly dehydrated. Rather frustrated as I don't think I made any significant tactical errors - I just can't cope with anything even moderatley warm.

peperami How I made it to the end I will never know. I couldn't bend my right knee from around mile 20. The heat was totally overpowering. I was bang on pace right through the split at 30k but had to walk/shuffle through the last 6 miles. A minor blip on what was a great weekend......

Ribenaface (RFSQL) Quite pleased, it was ridiculously hot out there but there was plenty of water and Lucozade, and the local kids had garden hoses out to spray the runners. Garmin footpod died so I had no idea what pace I was doing and kept missing mile markers, so happy that I kept it even. Fetchpoint was awesome and much needed.

CottamRunner Having completed Blackpool in 3.36.30 as part of my training for Edinburgh I had high hopes of a sub 3.35 in Edinburgh, maybe even a sub 3.30! However, after a cloudy (though muggy) start, it soon changed to roasting hot on the day - about 20-25 degrees in the shade (not much of that either), with no cloud cover or wind. Really, really tough - lots of casualties.

Tried to keep up with PB pace to the halfway point but was forced to ease back on the very hot coastal sections, battling round to a 3.39.27 time. Very proud of that, given the conditions - but I know I'm faster ...... ;)

vicky38 Very hot day, 1st 19 mile were ok, but when you turn round at the estates to head back down the road, you can see where you need to get to and it is both mentally challenging aswell as physically demanding to turn out those extra 7 miles. Also you pass the final leg of the relay team who join you whilst you are drained and they seem so fresh... they help you keep going :-)

FitterStu Hot! This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I thought 4:30 was a likely target with 4:45 OK. On the day it was so hot that I pretty much ran out of steam after about 16 miles. I need to be a bit fitter before I try another marathon. No problems with water. However I could easily have drank more often than the water stations. Fetchpoint was amazing. DiliDally Hooray - I finished! 23,500 starters. Very hot for the UK - sunny and at least 25/78. Plenty of water, but not enough sunscreen... Sore achilles on both legs all the way around, but fortunately I didn't have to quit. 10 mins in a queue for a toilet... Strong finish and not too bad the next day! Congrats also to Phil, who had a tough run but didn't give up. And thanks to our domestiques - David, Maria and Joseph. And hooray to the Fetchies who cheered us on at 11.5/23 - fantastic!
