In case you're wondering what all the treasure hunt blogs are about, call in to this thread: fetcheveryone.com/forum/fetch-treasure-hunt-61138/ - but in a nutshell, it's a 12 day Christmas challenge where you have to photograph a specific thing each day. Then you put your photograph into a blog to tell us more about it; or you can wait 'til the end and do all of them at once; or you can do a few at a time.
The Christmas Day item was 'a picture of your favourite gift'. Now I could have picked the world's most comfortable pants (which I am currently wearing - damn they are comfy!); or the lovely shirt with woodpeckers on it; or the handmade keyrings, made from Arnie's old dog collar; or the metal sign for the Fetch Office that for reasons neither of us can fathom says 'Daves Workshop'. I love all of them. But here's the first thing that Father Christmas gave me:
It may seem like an odd thing to get excited about. All week we've been trying really hard to make sure I didn't catch it. Katie's worn a mask around me; done lots of staying upstairs; and we've slept in separate rooms. I was even working hard to convince myself that the slightly scratchy feeling in my throat was just one of the other half dozen bugs circulating. The tests 'til then had all been negative, and I was in a quandary about whether to travel to see my boy (and from there, our plan was to go to Wales to see my folks). It's still not Covid. I can still do this.
And then it was. And I couldn't.
I messaged my boy. He's ok with it. He suggested that I could buy him an extra present for every day that I am unwell. He's thoughtful like that I went in to see Katie in our room, and she reached for her mask. I took it from her, and jumped into bed. We've been married for 11 years this Wednesday, and this would be the first time we'd spend the entirety of Christmas Day together. Ok, so I was unconscious for bits of it (and felt guilty as hell when Katie did all the work to make us a gorgeous dinner of ham and dauphinoise potatoes) but the feeling of the day was lovely. Take that Covid, you little swine.

Since putting the relay page live on Wednesday, I've been making some adjustments to the page based on your feedback.
I've beefed up the header, so it shows all four relays, along with the net distance they've travelled since starting out. North and East are currently joint furthest at 2.3 miles each; although I happen to know that the East relay has travelled much further than that. Big thanks to Nightjar for rescuing it from the swollen ford, and running it the long way round to the other side of the water.
There are also 'View Map' buttons in the header for each relay, letting you zoom in on the exact locations.
And there are 'Follow' tickboxes - so you can opt in to get a notification any time a particular relay has moved. I've opted in to all four, because I'm enjoying seeing them move - and I reckon it shouldn't generate an overwhelming amount of notifications at the rate we're going.
Down on the map, I've added some red dotted lines that show the step-by-step progress of each relay. Follow them all back to the source, and that's my house I'm not bothered about you knowing btw, I publish my address on every email I send to Fetchies. So far no-one has sent me a poo in a box
Zoom out a bit on the map, and you'll notice a load of different-sized circles. Each one is a Fetchie waiting for the relay to reach their turf. There's an option in the header where you can specify the radius that you can cover. I've gone with a 10 mile radius around me, because I reckon I could squeeze out a 20 mile bike ride if one of the relay capsules needed my help. My hope is that these circles will be useful in planning the best routes for each of our capsules.
Finally, when you add your What3Words location, one of our movers discovered that pluralisation is absolutely key. Missing or adding an 's' to any of the words can lead to the wrong place, or to no place at all. This seems like a bit of a failing of the system. But I've added a check at the point where you type your w3w phrase that will hopefully capture unrecognised ones and alert you. And obviously, if you've suddenly moved the relay 3000 miles, drop me some feedback and I'll help
And that's it for now. Do please go follow some/all of the relay capsules by ticking the boxes; and add your circle to the map. That way you won't forget about the relay, and the relay won't forget about you.

I really like this idea. Just hoping North makes it this far. I've put a 35 mile radius because I could take my bike on the train and cycle it home. Hopefully I'll have a wee bit of time to get fit enough before the dongle gets here!Angus Clydesdale9:22am, 24th Dec 2022

I released the badges before finishing the coding on this. I know some of you enjoy spotting new ones, so I thought I’d tease a bit.
Anyway, now it’s ready. A few weeks ago I splashed out £5 of your wonderful donations (you’re all looking wonderful today, btw) on these beauties:
Each relay is bound for a different direction. The blue one heads north (blue for Scotland, innnit?); the red one heads west (red for Walles, innit?); the gold one heads east towards the rising sun; and the silver one heads south (no idea, apart from the alliteration).
Over a few runs and walks, we have started these capsules on their journeys. They are all now nestling in hiding places within a few miles of our house.
How to join in
Visit the game page to check on the location of the relays. Click on any one of them to zoom in and see its journey to date. I've used What3Words to aid finding, and if you want to join in when the time comes, you'll need to get the app on your phone. You'll need your phone for taking a picture, so keep it with you.
Moving with the relay
Once you find the relay capsule (all the instructions are inside), you can run, bike, walk or move-through-water-under-your-own-steam (I would say 'swim', but I reckon it's good to include the canoeists and SUPists? SUPpers?). So no driving, trains, aeroplanes, drones, posting or being a dick basically.
You can move in ANY direction with the relay (including doubling back on yourself) but the END RESULT must be a furthering of its journey. For example, the NORTH relay can travel south for a bit, then east, then north - to avoid an angry field full of tigers. And any kind of NORTH is good - so you could move it 100 miles east, and a metre north - and that's fine.
Some obvious guidelines on a new hiding place: not too easy, so muggles can't find it; not too difficult, so Fetchies can find it; not dangerous; and beware of rising water levels. That sort of thing.
Just visit the relay page, click on the one you've moved, and you can enter the new What3Words location, a description of how to find it, and a picture to illustrate.
Features Yet To Come
Haven't had time to add any notifications just yet, but my plan is to add something that will let you track one or more of the relays, so you can keep an eye. And as the relays start to move, I want to add little dotted lines on the map that show their paths.
Did I mention badges?
If you do get to move any of the relays, each comes with its own sweet badge. Four to collect, and I reckon they'll be pretty rare.
Anyway... here's the link (also in the Games menu):

This is a *fab* idea ! And with real little baton / token things. I tell you the only thing that would have enhanced it (at a cost of £80, maybe not worth it though!) would have been little GPS tokens (like Apple Airpod, Samsung or other Android Tag things) so you could see where they *actually* are. But maybe a bit too much spend. This will be ace. I look forward to trying to grab the North one when it gets up here. GMerry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)4:32pm, 21st Dec 2022

This may be extremely tricky to implement or a bit technically intensive.. but could a user set a radius they'd be open to picking a relay up from, and then when a relay enters their circle they get a notification? In case you haven't seen it, today's challenge in the Festive Fetch Calendar seems to be going down well.
You don't have to enter the calendar to join in (but hey, why wouldn't you? Today's prize is a cracker. Not literally - it's trainers and headphones). Just visit this page and make your anonymous confessions:
fetcheveryone.com/christmas-fess.php
and vote to absolve or condemn the other confessions. To reiterate - it's anonymous, so feel free to tell us about the time you did a poo on someone's doorstep
There's also a thread, if you'd like a bit of commentary as the 'fesses come in. You can find that here:
fetcheveryone.com/forum/anonymous-confessions-62525/
Have fun

Fetchies um and Reiver have organised a 12 Days of Christmas Treasure Hunt to keep you entertained over the festive period.
From the 25th December, for 12 days, there will be a different item for you to find and photograph. For example, one item might be "a Christmas decoration in an unusual place". When you're out doing your runs, walks, rides etc, you need to look out for something that fits the brief, take a pic, then write a little blog about it. You can either do a blog each day, or you can save them up and do all your pics in one go at the end.
The item for each day will be posted on the Treasure Hunt thread the night before - so the first one will be available on Christmas Eve. You'll also be able to ask questions on the thread about the rules etc. Don't ask me, because I'm just an interested bystander in this
There's also a badge available if you successfully collect all 12 items. I know you folks love a badge

I'm settling in nicely to the new office I've even got used to the longer commute, but in order to do so, I've studied my surroundings to make the time pass more quickly. Here it is in What3Words squares, starting from the kitchen door:
1) ///vague.jiggle.conqueror - this feels very suitable. If you've been logging your training on Fetch for (*checks watch*) just over 18 years, I expect you've conquered a few vague jiggles. Or if not, imagine how much jiggling you'd do without all that effort?
2) ///critic.depending.spent - I'm claiming this one for my fight against corporate greed! I am a firm critic of any online service that depends on what you've spent. Raaar. No Paywall!
3) ///transmits.unscrew.league - if you've got a screw loose, and you're on Fetcheveryone, then you're probably on at least *one* league table. Fetch transmits these to the world
4) ///logbook.panic.cyclones - this is what I feel like whenever there's a problem with the website! Luckily I have had relatively few panic cyclones recently.
5) ///moss.prospers.myself - and I arrive at the office. My grandpa's surname was Moss, and his tenacity with his business (he started out selling ribbons, and graduated to a wallpaper shop) was been an inspiration to me. He also shared his birthday with Fetch Independence Day (are you doing a pic this year?), so it feels very fitting.
Anyway... last time I shared some office pics in the old house, a few of you noticed my ratty old chair. I'd had it for at least five years - and it was second hand when I bought it - so I've finally got myself a snazzy new one from John Lewis. Get me!
Here's a few pics of the set up:
and Stephen under the desk - he seems very happy to follow me down the garden path each morning:
In these temperatures, I've worked out that it's best to switch the little radiator on about 20 minutes before I start work - and then it's absolutely toasty in here. And I've worked out how loud I can play my music before it's audible outside the walls. After years of being parked on the thoroughfare between the rest of the house and the washing machine and tumble dryer, it's bloody marvellous to have this space. And so, so, so quiet. Aside from the gentle snoring of the dog, and the clunking of the keys, there is literally NO noise, unless I make it.
Last night at about 8pm, we went for a walk under a full moon to the nearby wood. It was lovely, and after much patience, we heard an owl. I took this pic on the way home - I don't know if the image quality captures it, but on the original, you can see the individual stars shining.
This morning, we got up for a run across frosty fields with the temperature just above zero, and saw the moon about to set, just as the sun was coming up. This pic is taken pointing back towards where we now live.
