Up 'til just now, if you'd set a mileage/kilometre-age target, it would be retained for the following year - which was fine, but it meant that our tables often had folks who weren't using the site any more, or who had forgotten about their targets, and moved onto greater things.
I've cleared out the target tables, so if you'd like to aim for some targets in 2018, you need to set some fresh ones. Here's the link to set your targets:

Merry Christmas Mr. & Mrs. Fetch!Strutbrother4:40am, 27th Dec 2017
1) Chop up 100g of unsalted butter and 100g of dark choc (I used G&B 70%), and melt it all together in a bowl over a saucepan of water.
2) Put 50g of plain flour and 150g of caster sugar into a bowl, poke out any lumps with a fork. Shove two medium eggs in it, and whizz it all up with an electric mixer until you're fed up.
3) Pour the melted chocolate in, and break up 100g of white choc into little bits, and lob that in too. Mix it all together with a fork. It should be a fairly sturdy sludgy mix by now.
4) Grease a baking tin with butter, pour it all in, flatten it out, and bake for 25 minutes at 160 degrees in a fan assisted oven. Let them cool down before cutting them into squares. They're a bit gooey initially, but stick them in the fridge for a few hours and they'll firm up nicely.
5) Shove as many down your chops as you can before anyone notices.

I've finished prepping all the remaining doors in the Festive Fetch Calendar. It's one of those tasks that's kind of fun, and I do look forward to, but also just a little bit look forward to completing. I can let it do its thing now.
I've also posted all the hoodies that have been ordered and paid for. There's time for one more posting trip on Thursday morning, according to Royal Mail. Here's what I have left:
Fire Red £25
========
1 XS
3 Small
1 XL
Storm Grey £25
==========
5 Small
4 Large
Leave a comment if you want one.
I also got out for a run this morning, and I was very pleased to find that I enjoyed it - pretty much the first time I've been able to say that since the engine failure that was Bedford Harriers Half. I managed 5.1 miles, which is quite a feat given that I've only been able to curse my way to a few three milers over the last couple of weeks.
It helped that there was stuff to think about. Katie and Stephen had left the house 20 minutes previously, as I was unconscious in bed - so I tracked them down (Stephen running in mad circles trying to locate my voice, me flapping my arms like a fat bat trying to help him). We ran back towards the house, then I ran on to the town to pay in a cheque.
Since I last blogged, I've seen Star Wars twice, and would be more than happy to go again. No spoilers, but I got a bit emotional second time around, knowing how various bits would unfold. I can't help but love it. I watched A New Hope six times in seven days when I was a kid, complete with eighties ads for VW Polos (being flipped over by Geoff Capes), Brittany Ferries (the parrot, singing "Brittany Ferries sail diiiiirect to Brittany"), Panama cigars, Gold Blend, and more.
In terms of more modern eighties throwbacks, I've also got through series 2 of Stranger Things, once with the Boy, and then again with Katie. He's a bit besotted with it at the moment, so I'm planning to deck out the living room like The Upside Down meets Joyce Byers living room for Christmas Eve, with lots of crepe paper, and christmas lights on the ceiling. Christmas hasn't followed the standard formula for quite some time now, so perhaps it's time to embrace it, and make our own normal.
I also have a new pair of swimming shorts. They are called 'core shorts', and are made of fairly thick neoprene, which will help get my legs up a bit higher in the water, and stop them acting like an anchor. That's the theory anyway.
And if you've been following Katie's blog, you'll know she's aiming for her first OWS endurance swim at the Bantham Swoosh in July 2018. We're hoping to build up the training section of the site to develop swim and bike as their own entities - so the development of the swim section will hang onto Katie's coat tails, and hopefully develop into something specific and useful. If you're a swimmer, and there's something you'd like to see on the site, shout out.
Neither of us particularly enthused about biking though. We need a biking champion.
Gosh, this has been a ramble.

Who would bet against the anniversary of Fetch Independence Day coinciding with a server outage (from 11pm to 7am)? It's like the server wanted to join in
Here we are though. One year on. Yesterday, Katie and I went for our annual Fetch Christmas Party / My Birthday lunch with a bottle of red wine, and a slip-slide home in the snow. It feels like we've been on code red for the entire year. So yesterday, I've officially downgraded the threat level to code orange. A very specific shade of orange, obviously.
If you've contributed to the upkeep of the site this year, I really do owe you one. With your generosity, some lenience from our web server company, and the never-ending support of my lovely Katie, we've just about managed to pilot our Millenium Falcon throughout the year, and can look forward to doing the same again.
If you haven't contributed yet, it's ok - but do please think about it. There are no extravagant outgoings to fund - just the cost of a web server, and enough money for me to look after my family. The average monthly donation is less than the price of a supermarket running magazine, and hopefully gives you more in companionship, support and fun throughout the year. Here's the link: fetcheveryone.com/invite.php
I promised you a re-enactment of Han and Chewie, piloting the Millenium Falcon. That's coming soon, as soon as I can persuade Katie to put on the onesie
In the mean time, my mam and dad were keen to join in. Here's mam doing "Annie, 'Fetch' your gun":
And if proof were needed that I am a genetic thoroughbred when it comes to resilience and being able to smile at myself, here's my 70yo dad, doing 'Singing In The Rain' (with a nod to Valyrian Plastic - great minds think alike):
Are we done? Like hell. Bring it on.

When you share stuff on FB and Twitter, some other websites give you the chance to put your stats over the top of a picture. I'm building one of these for Fetch. It feels like an ideal way to show off what Fetch can do.
Here's a rough Photoshop mockup of the sort of thing I'm aiming for (and thanks to Nellers and Fenland Flier for being the models):
What do you reckon?

Glorious Failure: Bedford Harriers Half Marathon
5:21pm, 5 Dec 2017
This race really didn't turn out like I hoped, but in lots of ways, it was also a win. About two weeks ago (Tues 21st), I was stopped in my tracks after a mile of my tempo run, with a pop from my hamstring. I limped home, and felt pretty limpy for the next couple of days. I was a bit gutted, because up 'til that point, the training had been going really well.
With some treatment from Katie, and some stretching and strengthening exercises to keep me focussed and optimistic, I spent the rest of the week prowling around like Darth Maul when he's waiting to poke his lightsaber into Qui-Gon in The Phantom Menace.
Monday was a 15 minute run-walk, Wednesday was a gentle three miler, and Friday was another three miler but with a faster mile in the middle. All good. Tentative attempt at the half marathon was back on.
Here's the whotsit: fetcheveryone.com/t-14433089
I ran at a very careful race pace (aiming at course best pace) for the first few miles, waiting for my leg to object - but happily it didn't. Up and over the first hill though, and although my leg was fine, I was starting to struggle to maintain the pace. The hill itself is a bit of a b*****d, but I've done five miles at 7.45/mile several times in training, so to start falling away after four miles at 8.15 pace was a bit concerning.
There's another gentle but unrelenting uphill drag on the way past the Christmas tree shop, and it's always busy with cars, despite being not much more than a single lane track. I got stuck behind an Audi, and my head went down, and things turned into a plod. I knew from this point on that this was not gonna be a good day for my running
I noticed that my breathing was pretty hard at this point, and that my heart rate was higher than I'd expect it to be for the pace. I saw Mick and Phil up ahead, and decided to have a little walk alongside them - it was lovely to see them as always, and impossible not to reevaluate 'tough', and grit your teeth and dig in a bit. Legends.
From there, I made it down and up another hill with a bit of determination, but gave myself a walk at about 7 miles, and again at 9 miles. With a bit of downhill assistance, and a hug from the Mobot, I'd ground out 11 miles, but it was feeling more like double that.
A few friendly faces came past, and gee'd me up, and wished me luck. Thisrunnerlovespurple and ~DW both sailed by with grins, both on their way to fantastic PBs. I fought hard to run the hills, and not walk 'til I got back on the flat.
With about 0.7 miles to go, I ended up walking about five metres behind another chap who was also walking. I yelled "come on Snapback [he was wearing a snapback hat], as soon as you start running, I will too". So he did. And so did I. I drew level with him, and we shared our sorry states, but managed to keep each other going. He stopped for a walk, and I told him it was just the excuse I needed to do the same - so he started running again. With about a third of a mile left, Mrs Snapback turned up to urge him on to a sub-2, and I found the effort to join in with the harrassment. I roared at him lots (I like roaring in the last mile of a race - it's good fun and it generates a bit of adrenaline). From the depths of our 10:30/mile slog, we found a last 200m at 8 minute miling, and he sailed through the finish line to get his sub-2 with about a minute to spare. We did one of those handshakes that turns into a sort of sideways hug, and Mrs Snapback also gave me a hug. It was just the boost I needed after a very hard day at the office.
Katie was just a minute behind me, getting her sub-2 with a smile, and she helped me drag my sorry ass back to the car for some chocolate milk that tasted like the food of the gods, on the day that they treat themselves to something really awesome.
Zero batteries. Got home, had a sleep on the dog. Bed at 8pm. Slept solidly 'til 7am, apart from a brief wake up at midnight to let Stephen out (during which, I fell asleep on the sofa waiting for him to complete his pee).
I feel so much better now. I took the dog for a run this morning, and have virtually no DOMS, and feel much more like a spring chicken. Ready to go again Almost.
Bad Race Theories (pick your favourite)
1) The Overtraining Theory. Did I do too much? I ran 1x15, 2 x 14, 2 x 13, and five mile tempo runs each week. Cutback week every four weeks.
2) The WD40 Theory. With two weeks of very little running post hamstring, had I seized up?
3) The Hamstring Protection Theory. I didn't measure my cadence on the day, but I wonder whether I was running at race pace off a higher cadence, in order to shorten my stride length. And perhaps that higher cadence ate up my energy more quickly.
4) The Inhaler Theory. I have two blue inhalers, that I've been using interchangeably. I tested them both today. One squirts out the medication with a firm toot, the other one looks like *it* has asthma.
5) The Virus Theory. Did I have something going on, on the day? No evidence of it otherwise.
6) The Mental Theory. Did I just lose focus, and convince myself that I couldn't? The course is a tough one, and it's easy to let your head go down when the road keeps going up.
I've no idea. But I'm feeling positive, because my hamstring is ok, I helped Snapback, Katie smashed it, and the chocolate milk was awesome. Time to pick another half and see if I can put things right.
In other news...
Now this could be fairly soppy, but it could also be really lovely. I saw this idea recently, and liked it so much I decided to pinch it.
Find the user profile of someone who has made you proud through their efforts this year. You'll find a little link on every profile to write them a pride letter. Say something nice about what they've done, and why you're proud of them. Press send. The Fetch Elves will dispatch the letters via fmail on Christmas Eve. A once-a-year feature.
Spoiler alert: it's tomorrow's challenge, but letters sent today or at any point before the 24th will count.
Leave a comment if you're gonna do it.

Races are like that sometimes. Could be any one of the things above. Important thing is to recover, reset and get back on the horse (not literally obv, though that would almost definitely be a PB technique). Proud of lots of Fetchies.
