Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Billy Cazza Was meant to do this last year but deferred as was expecting. This will be my first long race back so really don't know what to expect. Just want to get the t-shirt and enjoy the weekend away with the OH and LO in Pompey.

RFJ Beautiful morning for the GSR in Andover, nice cool breeze, jumps in car drives 50m to Portsmouth, park up ope nthe door and nearly lose it to the slight wind that is blowing.... ok call it a hooley, it was blowing one big style.... In the sun it was very warm, aim was 63 and then try and push for the PB of 62:46..... in the last few miles, this was reconsidered straight away to read happy with 65....

so after a nice warm up it was into the mix.

1m - 6:11 and plenty of protection but dodging loadsa slower runners.
2m - 6:09 oh this is nice, hard but do-able...
3m - 6:07 still in comfort zone and moving up nicely
4m - 6:14 starting to feel the wind here hit 5k in 19:19, that used to be my PB till just over a year ago....
5m - 6:25 windy here but half way in 31:07 and on for a PB, but know the last 2m is in to the wind, but my legs are tired for a reason I do not now...
6m - 6:27 did I set of too fast, if I did then everyone else did as we all seem to start struglling with the swirling wind, even though slowing and holding my position well enough.
7m - 6:32 Through 10 k in 39:xx happy with that the rest is the same as mile 6...
8m - 6:31 the wind is meant to be behind us but still cannot find any pace, nor can anyone else so it seems
9m - 6:50 Into the wind the dreaded last 2 miles down the sea front, and it didnt dissapoint, hard work
10m - 6:50 dammed hard work grafting against the wind and the clock to beat 65, its going to be close.... even more so as mr garmin is out and I have it on laps, hit 10m and still a last sprint is required..
.08m - 30s try to sprint in and see the gun time as 1:04:53... watch says 1:04 :50.

So cracked the 65 for only the second time, but 2 mis away from a PB... overall very happy.

Met up with a few fetchies too and cleared off quick to beat the traffic......

Cormorant This new personal worst was expected. I got a free massage beforehand in the BUPA tent, which helped. It's never been dry and sunny when I've done this before, and Batman and Robin and the bloke (or woman) dressed in the pink bunny suit must have been really hot. We seemed to run against the wind in both directions though, and the last two miles along the seafront felt expectedly hard. I like the camaraderie of runners - everyone's got a story. Changing trains on the way back had roast lunch in a funny old pub with a fat bloke in a tee shirt that read 'Beer Disposal Facility' and a woman came in with two cages with an owl in each.

Athlete In Progress Should have good endurance after all the marathon training and will be working on my speed training this summer so hoping to make this my fastest ever 10 Miler!

Well with the help of SharonD managed to run 1:36:10, she was a fantastic help keeping me to 9 Min miles near to the second the first few miles and on the last three miles keeping me going as I was suffering.

After suffering from a cold which put me out of the Cabbage Patch 10, I was determined to race the Bupa Great South Run although only 90% recovered. I would of more likely been in the 1:40's had it not been for Sharon.

It's amazing from just having a cold/flu how long it takes to get back to 100% fit. Really struggled with getting enough oxygen in the lungs to keep going towards the finish.

Although not managing my prediction, very happy considering my PB for this race was 1:59:25 and my fastest 10 mile to date had been 1:50:57.
Really feel like changing my prediction for you guy's who bet on me but probably not appropiate! LOL!

Therefore a PB of 24 mins for this race is fabulous and a PB for 10 mile race of 14 Mins+.

V.Happy!

smiley broadling Not a PB day for me - too many people to dodge and a headwind for the last two miles and the fact that I've been a bit off colour for the last days perhaps didn't help. Still, all in all a good result especially because I helped raise £430 for MS!

Super Sue Lovely weather brought out the crowds so a lot more congested than last year. Knee gave in at mile 7 and I thought it was over but limped on and by mile 8 it recovered enough for to run normally, A strong wind at mile 8 proved tough to run into therefore target time out the window but glad I beat last years and I didn't walk once. Don't think I'll do this race again.

oiyou ran with jacky. Jack had to walk last mile but ran final 400m. No chance of training for this run, too much time in hospice, Sue died and too many bad things after. Did it tho and although slowest, prob my proudest achievment in the running world.
