hannkies PB so a good wee reward for some grand training recently. Probably a 10 mile and 5 mile pb en route so got to be pleased. Cracking race, undulating, but fairly fast course, and organised to perfection.

_andy Knew that I should be on for a PB, but still worried about how it would all pan out. Not helped by the triple whammy of a bruised foot from Friday, stiff quads (rugby refereeing yesterday) and massive lower back pain, which started an hour and a half before the race, probably from the Friday hockey match.
Went for it from the start, but not a ridiculous pace, and certainly didn't get carried away during the uphill mile 3 through Sauchie. Focused hard during the back straight, especially the deceptively uphill mile 8 through Alva, which included a stop-start turn around a cone. Mile 11 up (and up and up) Menstrie Brae was a tightrope of sustaining pace without pushing too hard and blowing up, even as my mate Andy left me behind as he floated up the hill, but things were ok through Tullibody and the long drag up towards Lornshill Academy was manageable, if hard work. Then it was a case of *really* pushing with a real focus on running form to keep the pace on, mostly at sub-6 min/miles, with Andy making a good target not too far up in front. Managed to run off the front of the wee group that had formed on the climb and had enough for a long sprint from the lamp-post just before that final roundabout turn into the finish area. Then got worried that I was going to pass Andy too early and he'd come back and beat me, so it was foot to the floor time and give it 100% over the line. That's almost 4 minutes for a PB (although the greedy bit of me wanted it to be 43 seconds faster. Next time)
