Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

ATOM. No PB. Do not bet on me. Taking this race really steady, probably as a group so helping peoples round. Plus it's hilly, or so I'm led to believe ;)

Caterpillar I have no idea what to expect here. This is new territory for me. Planning to run as evenly as the undulations permit. Perhaps 4:45?? RACE REPORT - It was wet and windy, which caused a wind chill factor, and coming back over the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head the mist had visibility down to 100m. They said it was a scenic marathon. LOL. Had a minor sense of humour failure when the hill at 10 miles turned out to go on grinding upwards for about 4 miles into the wind and driving drizzle, but after that I pulled myself together and got on with task task in hand. I ran all the way to 18 miles (except the start hill where I couldn't run all of it because of the crowds of walkers) where we met a second lone bagpiper. What is it about Sussex? Does it have a large Scottish population, or has someone just decided that every desolate windswept hillside needs someone squeezing awful noises out of a sheep's bladder? Very loudly. The hills were truly gruesome, as expected, only worse, and I loved every one. At around half way I naively flirted with the idea of going for sub 4 hours, but the bagpipe tune on the steps was a premonition of the athletic slow death march that was to follow. Having turned a corner psychologically and physically on the way up to Beachy Head, with the wind up my arse for a change sub 4.30 suddenly looked like a serious proposition. What a mad mad mad mad race. Loved it. Absolutely thrilled not only with the time, but also the way I didn't fall to bits in the last 8 miles.

Nicky Boy Fantastic day, great marshalls & check point teams, to stand out in that weather with mighty smiles dishing out tea, water, buns, soup, sausage rolls, milky way & mars bars, bananas and all time time giving encouragement these people are what makes running such a pleasure and are a credit to Eastbourne. Many many thanks, one very tired but happy first time marathoner, I will be back next year.
