It's 48 hours post Oakley, and most of the short-term discomfort has faded, but in much the same way that an outgoing tide rolls away to leave a few interesting remnants on a beach. On Sunday I was groaning when I stood up or sat down, and got to bed feeling totally enveloped in tiredness. Today I'm certainly feeling a bit perkier - enough to try a little three miler this morning. The wind was quite spectacularly annoying, creating big rolling waves on the lake - I filmed a bit for the vLog. The run went pretty well though, and it felt nice to get my legs going, but my right calf is still quite cross with me about Sunday - mostly when I put it under any sort of torsion. Another 48 hours, including a bit of a lower-limb seeing-to from my lovely wife tomorrow, and I hope to stop struggling round in the sand like an oily flamingo, and take to the skies once more.
With the 20 on Sunday, we've officially peaked, with just under 4 weeks to go until London - but I think we still have three double-digit runs to get through, including Sandy 10. Depending on how quickly my legs get better, I'll also fit in 1-2 more faster runs, and the rest is just bobbling around
Today, I've mainly been working through the key pages of the mobile site. Google Analytics tells me the most popular pages on the site (you can probably guess them - training, forum, blogs, gallery, race listings, home page etc), and by working my way through most of the top 30 pages, I've covered about 90% of the traffic on the site. To get that figure up to 95%, I need to convert almost the same number again - so that's going to get a little bit tedious

It started with a tootle around Priory with the dog on Tuesday. I'd felt a small rip in my left calf in the last 200 metres of my tempo run last Friday, so I'd had three days of complete rest, and went out a bit gingerly - but all seems to have mended well.
I wanted to give it more rest, just to make sure, so I had two more days of rest until Friday morning, when it was time for a special run with my beginners - their first group 5k. A couple of them had done the distance in training, and they'd all got to within a quarter of a mile of it in previous weeks - so I was pretty confident that they'd do well. I planned out a 5k route around the village, and jinked it around a bit until the finish line was just outside the cake shop. What better motivation for completing that final bit? We were even joined by another lady who normally runs with a more experienced group - all part of my plan to integrate my lot into normal running society
It went very well! With about 200m to go, I legged it ahead, and filmed them arriving at the 5k point - and I think they were all smiling. I'll be posting my vLog later today. I was bought some coffee and cake, and there was lots of talk of buying running shoes, GPS watches, and what to do next. The plan is to slowly build up the long runs to about 10k during next term, and to work a little bit on improving our 5k times, or at least on making 5k feel a lot more comfortable - which I'm sure will happen.
My legs appreciated what was for me a bit of a lighter run (although we've brought our pace down from over 12mins/mile a few weeks ago, to just over 11mins/mile now), and the plan then was to rest up before Oakley 20 on Sunday. This I managed, aside from a load of Kinect Sports with the boy. He left on Saturday to go to America with his mum for a fortnight, so I won't see him for a while now, but there are plans to Skype; I know he'll have an amazing time; and he's going to get cwched to within an inch of his life when he gets back.
Oakley then. Katie and I were both a bit nervous, partially because of the hills, partially because we're carrying all the typical sort of niggles you get at the busy end of marathon training, and partly because of the horrendous weather forecast. The BBC said winds of 25mph (with 44mph gusts), and the rain cloud symbol with a double droplet, that means heavy rain.
We arrived (in the aforementioned heavy rain) about an hour before the race was due to start, which was a bit of a mistake, as it meant we couldn't get in the first car park. The second car park was advertised as a 15 minute walk away, but luckily our lovely friend Elsie Too lives very near the school, so we gently parked the car on her lawn
The changing / number / baggage area was very crowded, and I know a few people were quite unhappy about that - but I think the weather pushed everyone inside, which made it worse. When we did eventually make it outside, it was quite a surprise to discover that it actually had stopped raining. As the start approached, the marshalls had tried to get everyone outside, but the runners seemed to be keen to stay indoors. It was a bit like the start of a big horse race, where the horses don't want to go into the stalls. I think this was a big factor in the start being 10 minutes late - but it was a nice chance to say hello to a few Fetchies (Gromit, Rosehip, WoadWunner, Girlie, Tuga, Schnecke, RichHL, ndellar, sarahbop, Tall Bloke - and I'm sure I've forgotten some more names - sorry :-/). I also realised that I'd forgotten to take my inhaler, which was a bit of a concern, but I know that I can run without it (I did two marathons before I started using it), and so I thought that I'd do the first lap (12 miles) and grab it from baggage if necessary.

5) 1m - 10:12(10:12/m) 138/146bpm
Eventually we were off, and the first mile was mainly about watching the people in front of us dropping gels (we managed to reunite one with its owner), and trying not to get too carried away with our pace. At mile three, there was a big hill - one that we've cycled down several times when we were training for our sprint triathlon. It's the sort of hill were I ride the brakes most of the way down, which might give you an idea of how it feels to run up it. But it was nice and early in the run, and we worm-geared our way up it. The corresponding downhill made mile 4 nice and quick. Oncoming cyclists were a great barometer of when the next downhill was coming - you could tell by how knackered they were. Mile 5 was quite hard, as we turned directly into the oncoming westerly wind.
6) 1m - 10:38(10:38/m) 139/150bpm

We walked through the water station at mile 6, taking a gel in the process, then up another rise to about 7.3 miles. Then we trundled out the next three, doing a net downhill in the process, but not really noticeably, because of the undulations. The leader came flying past at about 9 miles, so he had done 16 - and was looking great. But he acknowledged our applause, which was nice - as did the guy in second place, who was a good 3 minutes back by this point.

15) 1m - 10:43(10:43/m) 154/163bpm
The 12 mile marker signified the end of the first lap, and a quick walk for our second gel and more water. It was great to see Elsie Too, who ran alongside us for a short while, saying lots of positive things, and cheering us on. By 13, my heart rate had taken a step up, but the miles up to 15 went by quite quickly, as we made it back to the point where we'd marshalled a few years back, which was a nice target.

At 16, I felt the first signs of starting to struggle, and the remaining miles felt like they were stretching out in front of me. My heart rate was continuing to step up, and for the first time since starting, I had a bit of regret about not getting my inhaler. I'm sure that if my lung capacity was that little bit greater, it might have given me a bit more oxygen to play with. But the miles ticked down slowly, and I tried to stay positive. It was a massive boost to see Gromit just ahead of us, and we made a bit of a road train, and felt a little bit better. I'd texted my dad at 13 miles, and he texted me back a few times with some encouragement. Gromit stopped for a quick drink at the water station, so Katie and I pressed on. It was a bit tough to then make the turn towards the school, and see the 19 mile marker, and to know that we'd have to do some looping around the local streets to make up the final mile. Katie was doing really well at this point, and led us through the maze of alleyways, and shouted encouragement at me. At last, finally, we popped out near Elsie's house, for a quick high five, then through the passage that led to the school field. A lap of the field, one last desperate lap (at 8:30 pace, yay!), a hold of hands in the finishing straight, and we were home for a slight negative split
The lady taking off my chip was struggling to get her pliers to the wires, so I offered to give her the shoe. I stumbled over to where Katie was stood, chatting to a lady she knows. She broke off from the conversation, handed me a drink, and said "This is Lemon". "Lemon?" I said. Katie's clients are a multicultural bunch, so I double checked. "Lemon", she said. I turned and looked at the lady, who smiled sympathetically. And then the penny dropped. Lemon squash. Looked like water to me
I was a bit flaky after this point. We made it back into the very busy sports hall, and got our prized hoodies. I was feeling a bit light-headed, but we also responded to a call to go sit with a chap who was lying on the floor, suffering from the same thing. After getting our stuff from baggage, I ended up deciding I wanted to lie on the floor next to him I did make one attempt to rouse myself, heading off to the bit where they were serving food to get tea and choc for us - and I started chatting to Tall Bloke (who is, in fact, very tall, but should also be called Nice Bloke). Within about 20 seconds, it was clear I wasn't going to last the queuing time, as my vision was going a bit dark around the edges - so I went back to our base camp, and had another lie down. Eventually, I felt like it'd be good to get out in the fresh air, and was more-or-less fine by the time we got to the car.
Home, for scrambled egg on toast, chocolate milk, a shower, and an hour or so in bed. I've learnt not to eat too much immediately after a long run, and I've learnt what works, and what needs to happen. Writing this on Monday morning, I am a little creaky, but with no specifics, which is the best news of all really.
Our third 20 miler, in the bag - and for the most part, a very good experience that's given me a lot of confidence for London. It won't be that hilly, and it hopefully won't be that windy. I won't have Katie to run with (boo), but I *will* have all the memories of the training we've done together. I will also remember my inhaler! Bring it.

I was tempted Elsie, but it did feel ok. It was only something that I really thought about in the last few miles - and I felt *much* better in those last four than I did on our last 20. But thank you, I know you'd have come to my aidfetcheveryone11:27am, 30th Mar 2015

Brilliant running. I don't think any 20 mile run is very easy. Just make sure you have your inhaler with you on the day, or I agree with Katie, that we should tape it to your face! (I can only say this as a fellow inhaler user!). You will be fab in LondonCorrah7:46pm, 30th Mar 2015

Well done indeed. Good run and great account. Enjoy VLM. I shall watch and cheer you all on t'telly. GHappyG(rrr)9:49am, 31st Mar 2015
After dropping the boy at school, I met up for a run with the beginners (that coincided with the eclipse). We did 31 minutes today, and they covered just under 2.8 miles - quite an increase in pace. Next week (which also coincides with the last day of term) we'll aim to round it up to 5k. 'citin'!
Then I took myself over to West Park, which is my favourite place to run fast at the moment. The paths are all fabulously flat, and you can do a 1.4 mile loop - so even if it's a bit windy, it evens out. I'm really pleased with how it went, although I've come back with a bit of a calf twinge - it came on in the last quarter of a mile I'd say. The discomfort that started in my hamstring a couple of weeks ago has pinball buffered its way from left to right, as my legs have done whatever is necessary to compensate for it. A couple of days ago it was my right inner shin, and so today it was the turn of the left. Luckily I have a few days with no running to give it a chance to patch back together. I guess it's to be expected at the uncomfortable end of marathon training.
My splits from today:
1) 1m - 7:51(7:51/m) 125/159bpm
2) 1m - 7:44(7:44/m) 158/164bpm
3) 1m - 7:54(7:54/m) 162/166bpm
4) 1m - 7:57(7:57/m) 161/166bpm
5) 1m - 7:42(7:42/m) 165/168bpm
6) 1m - 7:47(7:47/m) 167/169bpm
This tempo run was brought to you via the wisdom of HappyG (lengthen the LT run gradually to 6-7 miles) and Mr & Mrs Jigs (threshold pace is somewhere between your 15k and half marathon pace)
The boy has a new rugby shirt, which he slept in last night, and put on as soon as he got home from school today. He's hoping to channel the majesty of Richard Hibbard in his tackling tomorrow.
The new mobile site now has a home page. It's very minimalist. Check it out if you're on a mobile here: m.fetcheveryone.com

Great tempo-ing. They get tough when you are up to the 6 and 7 milers. Lol at Wisdom though! Just a straight quote out of P&D plans, but hey, I'll take a good reference from the Master of Fetch, thanks! Here's another OldHappyWife tale: "If your niggles are moving, then you're still improving!" If the same niggle niggles or worse gets worse, then you've got a problem. But if one niggle goes and another one arrives, then you're OK, well, that's my logic anyway, such as it is!HappyG(rrr)
What an amazing day Saturday was - sorry that Wales didn't quite get the points difference required but I think Ireland were the right winners really, in the end. G1:13pm, 23rd Mar 2015

In other news, I've had my hair cut today.
I also had the most fantastic experience ever on Saturday. My lovely wife bought us tickets for Wales vs Ireland - it was so exciting! I think I even gave myself a small calf strain with the sheer tension of it all. When Wales got a penalty after defending 30+ phases on their own line, the cheer in the stadium built up like a jet engine. I also liked the way the font on the scoreboards were a bit like Quidditch
And finally, I ran 15 miles yesterday! The first five were with Katie, and had a five minute break at the end, whilst we both stopped for a wee; but then the next 10 were solo. There's nowt but good news really - my left upper leg behaved itself pretty well, I felt chirpy and full of beans at the end (although a few hours later, the urge to go to sleep hit me like a wall, lol), and I even felt like stepping up the pace for miles 12-14. I'll aim to do a tempo run this Friday after beginners, which means I just need to fit in an AN Other run tomorrow, and I'm on target for this week. Oakley 20 next Sunday - eeep!

Back in Bedford, waiting for t'wife to finish her last client of the day, so we can catch up.
I've got a bit of a sore tum - it's been brewing since I finished my run today. It could the speed with which I ate the cheese sandwich that I inhaled afterwards. Or the Snickers I ate before!
Today was the beginners session - and (I say this every time) they did very well. It was a bit of a challenging one today - not only was it our longest run to date (28 minutes), but we did it as an out-and-back, with the 'out' being up a shallow gradient, into a headwind. Of course, we got it all returned on the way back - but they did well nevertheless, and shaved another 10s/mile off their pace - despite one of them falling over
I did my own run in the afternoon - a tempo run - but a little slower than I have been running them. The goal is to get the distance up to 6-7 miles now, and in order to do that, I have to step back a bit from the 7:30's that I was running my 4 mile tempo at. It's sense really. So today I did 5 miles at just under 8mins/mile, although I did have a seven minute walk in the second mile when I was on the phone to Katie - so it was more like 4.5 really. Overall it felt a good deal more comfortable to run at that pace, and I can envisage being able to build that up without too much stress.
And the best part was that my leg behaved itself, and I felt surprisingly chipper so soon after Wednesday's 20
But the absolute best part of today is the knowledge that tomorrow me and Katie will be at the Millenium Stadium watching Wales. #breathlessoptimism

It was pretty tough.
We did the same route as our last 20, but this time we did it in reverse. I've never done this on such a long run before, and it's kind of strange, ticking things off backwards - and remembering how you felt at each point - and weird how some bits of the route shrunk or grew in my memory.
The first five miles were a bit disjointed - certainly not the prettiest part of the route, and there was a fair bit of road crossing, and a loo stop at Morrisons. Then the next 3 miles were all about the southerly wind, which was a bit sapping. I'd nailed my layers, but poor Katie had a few too many long-sleeve tops.
There was a turn at 9.5, which put the wind behind us, which also had the effect of making everything seem much quieter, but that didn't last long, as the traffic started whizzing past us. Mentally, I'd prepared myself for the incline through Shortstown at 11 miles (the only incline of any note on this route), as it was the point at which I'd lost a bit of my mojo on our previous visit. So much so that I'd nicknamed it 'the B*stard of Shortstown'. But (perhaps because I'd built it up so much), it wasn't too bad, and I sailed down the other side feeling good.
We (literally) ditched some of Katie's jumpers at the 12 mile mark, took our second gel, and from here on, it was a bit of a stop-start grind. Poor Katie was having a bit of a 'mare with the stomach : porridge ratio, and the machinery in my left leg was revving up to be a bit of an issue.
I tried to loosen things off whilst running, by lifting my knees and flicking my heels, just as we went through Cople (14 miles), but very shortly after that, something in my left knee decided it was unhappy, and I had to stop pretty quickly, and stretch IT band, hamstring, quads and groin.
This seemed to help a bit, and we made it on to 16 miles, taking our final gel, and using it as another opportunity to stretch my bits out Again, it helped a little, but from then on, everything was pretty tortuous. The mileage crept up 0.1 at a time, and kerbs got sworn at a lot.
I tried to be cheerful as we neared home, but I can only imagine that any neighbours that happened to look out of their windows when we arrived back must have wondered why the hell we do this to ourselves. Neither of us were particularly sure why either A bath/shower was followed by an unspoken understanding that we'd both go to bed and have a 20 minute nap, which felt like the best sleep ever.
That said, I am surprised by how well I'm moving around today. I still feel like I could take a nap at any point, but I've even entertained the notion of running, even if I fairly quickly talked myself out of it. Beginners group tomorrow, and I'll be the one at the back

I've been playing about with Weka today - it's a data analysis tool. It's completely free, and it's from the University of Waikato, which is where Warren Gatland went - which makes it excellent by default.
Anyway... you can use it to build 'decision trees'. An example of a decision tree might be a list of questions that your bank asks you, in order to loan you money. Do you own your own home? How many months do you want to pay it back? What's your salary? How many times a week do you go skydiving? These aren't always simple yes/no questions - like the salary one, the answer can be anything from 0 to a squillion. The decision tree works out the best order to ask these questions; and depending on each answer, the subsequent questions are moved around. So at the bank, they might ask you about your salary first, because it's the clearest indicator of whether you can afford the loan; but if your answer is low, they might still lend you the money if you give a high answer for the number of repayment months. The tree is constructed by looking at lots of cases where money is loaned, each with a measurement of the outcome i.e. was the loan paid back successfully or not. Of course, depending on who you loan money off, the criteria might lean towards lending to those who *can't* pay it back - but that's not the point of this blog
Of course, it's of interest to me because I have a big database of all your running data And if you have any sort of race portfolio on FE, then you'll have had an fmail from me recently asking you to classify your races as PB attempts or not.
I've taken the first steps towards trying to make use of that information today. I fed 630 marathon performances into Weka, each with information about the mileage and pace that the runners had been operating at pre-race. Here's a little decision tree that it's come up with to determine whether that sub-4 is on. It correctly classifies 92.4% of marathon runners who were trying to beat their PBs:
1) Previous Best quicker than 4 hours?
If yes, then YES you will get a sub-4
If no, then go to question (2)
(2) Is your overall training pace quicker than 9:53/mile?
If yes, and this is your 1st, 2nd or 3rd marathon, then YES!
If yes, but you've had more than 3 PB attempts at a marathon, then NO!
If no, go to question (3)
(3) Is your previous best better than 4:04:42?
If yes, go to question (4)
If no, then NO!
(4) Is your peak mileage week less than 52 miles?
If no, then NO!
If yes, then go to question (5)
(5) Is your pace better than 10:00/mile?
If yes, then YES!
If no, then go to question (6)
(6) Is your previous best better than 4:10:53?
If yes, then YES!
If no, then NO!
It's lots of fun playing with this

Ah, now, err, um, hang on. That might all be statistically correct and valid, but... is it causal? And can you use it to guide or inform? Surely that's important. e.g. If you are a multi marathoner, you might always do sub 4, run most of your training at sub 4 pace, because you do marathons every other weekend and just recovery runs in between. But that doesn't mean we'd recommend anyone/everyone to do 25 marathons a year?! Caution, arooga, arooga etc.! GHappyG(rrr)8:40am, 11th Mar 2015

Very good. I think the important bit is just what Fetch said, it's aPB attempt, so you then make the assumption that people have had a plan, trained as hard as time will allow, and ou have quite a bank fo data. Perhaps it is not totally causal, but I'd say it is a prety good guide and very useful information. It ook liek it show you need to have a coupleof cracks at least at a mara, and gradualy get our pace upa bit. I've run two, from emeort 4.14, 4.11, not enough long runs, not quite at the right pace, this works out for me.Ocelot Spleens12:48pm, 11th Mar 2015

One of the beginners from my running group has been involved in this project, which looks like it'd be interesting for those of you that like adding a challenge element to your running:
democracystreet.com
It's not live yet I don't think - but the idea is that you can use the app to find streets in any area that are named after people and events that have shaped democracy in the UK. You visit them, check in, read up on the historical info if you like, and collect points - and if you take a picture, it'll go into a big bit of artwork (and you'll score extra points).

Really interesting! I love finding out about the history of places I run, but usually have to google it afterwards. I can imagine apps for other stuff too: wonder if they exist? Blue plaque apps? You could collect blue plaques. Local historical societies could all join up in one app? Lots of cool ideasfleecy1:12pm, 10th Mar 2015

My beginners moved up to 25 minutes today - and still seem to be enjoying themselves This took us through the 2 mile mark for the first time, and not only did they run further than last week, but they were also slightly faster, by about 10s/mile. When I got home, I called a couple of local running shops, and they've given me some 10-15% off vouchers to hand out. One shop will even send us a £100 voucher when we've redeemed 10 of the discount vouchers. If you're leading a group, it's worth giving it a try to see what's available locally.
Then it was time for me to do my run, and (as it's my last one of the week) I felt like making it a bit of a bigger one. So I went for 10, stuck my headphones in, and enjoyed it. The legs are mostly back to normal, and the pace was pretty good. I think I must be using my arms more - I've got a bit of muscle tiredness in my triceps, and the bit of your chest that your arms rest on when you're too tired to hold them up. I've got two full days off, and some light duties before our next 20 on Wednesday.
This evening we've watched a good amount of YouTube, and the Bear Grylls programme, which was good fun. We did a bit of maths homework (Mayan sums), and my boy has noted that there's no point whatsoever in advertising that you can put soup in a cup. It's soup. Put it in whatever you like.
I'm reading 'Dear Lupin: Letters to a Wayward Son', which is proving to be fun.

Finally I have all the pieces in place to write up my experiences at the Bath Half
This was our third year at the race, and it's becoming something like a permanent fixture in our calendar now. When we first ran here, it was inspired by the fact that my eldest stepson had started university in the city - and it was a nice excuse to come and see him. But even though this year he's in Switzerland, we still ended up in Bath We've also stayed in the same bed and breakfast each time, right on Great Pulteney Street. It feels a bit like seeing old friends when we arrive, and we've got to the point now where we book up for next year as we're leaving
The race itself is about as flat as a half marathon in Bath could ever be, going along one side of the river, then back again on the other side, and repeat. The supporters are plentiful and vocal, and there's an increasing quantity of entertainment on the route. This year they had seven bands playing live, along with various locals with speakers and amps in their front gardens. There was one guy standing in his garden, with one foot up on his amp and arms folded, as it belted out classical music, looking like some sort of triumphant viking. The local radio station cover ten or twenty yards of road with jelly babies in their efforts to fuel the runners, bless 'em, and there are all manner of scouts and volunteers handing out water and Lucozade, and picking it back up again.
In short, it's the sort of vibrant well-organised chaos that you expect from a big city race.
I think I've been a bit lucky to be on the 'white' start each year. Katie has been shunted into the orange start, and was jealous of the amount of space around me as I recorded some vLog footage from inside my pen. There's a hilarious ritual as runners discard their warm jumpers, balling them up and hurling them to the sides - or in many cases, just flinging them into the crowd. On either side of the column of runners, expensive but friendly looking sandstone families look down from third and fourth stories, drinking mugs of tea and laughing at our antics.
The first mile is a bit congested - it took me just under two minutes to get across the start line (it took some runners at least 15 minutes), and the first half a mile is a bit of a bun fight as people jostle for position, and weave all over the place like motorists taking phone calls. When you get to the bit of the course that loops, there's a lane system in place, but thankfully this year they'd improved it. Last time there were cones up the middle of the road, and I nearly split my difference on one of them. This year, they'd strung tape from cone to cone, so it meant they were a bit easier to avoid. However, it did mean that sometimes I was swearing at the people getting a better corner than me, and there were a few places where the cones had fallen over.
But I'm nit picking. If you like 'em brash, you'd like this one
My own race went pretty well, considering I'm marathon training. I think it might have been a bit ambitious to try for a PB at the moment - I didn't really taper - but there were some encouraging signs - certainly an improvement on last year's post-virus attempt. Here are my splits:
1) 1m - 7:49(7:49/m) 159/181bpm
2) 1m - 7:53(7:53/m) 165/173bpm
3) 1m - 7:53(7:53/m) 167/177bpm
4) 1m - 7:56(7:56/m) 165/171bpm
5) 1m - 7:58(7:58/m) 167/177bpm
6) 1m - 7:59(7:59/m) 170/174bpm
7) 1m - 8:07(8:07/m) 171/178bpm
8) 1m - 8:06(8:06/m) 171/180bpm
9) 1m - 8:17(8:17/m) 172/180bpm
10) 1m - 8:23(8:23/m) 171/179bpm
11) 1m - 8:22(8:22/m) 171/177bpm
12) 1m - 8:37(8:37/m) 171/177bpm
13) 1m - 8:50(8:50/m) 176/180bpm
14) 0.21m - 1:39(8:00/m) 181/184bpm
Mile 8 is the second pass through Queen Square - accompanied by a little 15m incline that can feel a bit uncomfortable first time round, and leave you swearing on the return visit. It pretty much marks the point where I began the switch from 'trying to maintain race pace', to 'trying not to slow down by too much'. As you can see, the steam slowly ran out over the last 4-5 miles. I also got pretty stiff in my hips, which will be one to watch when we get back to our long runs (20 planned next week).
The finish is at the same point as the start, with runners directed down a side road towards rest and goodies. I finished 2863rd out of 11,590 - so I don't think I saw this area at its most congested. It was a little bit slow in places (bit of a standstill at the point where the medals were being handed out), and I got told that I couldn't have a bottle of Lucozade, because I'd already accepted a bottle of water - this despite lots of runners walking round with armfuls of bottles. I didn't mind this - and I think I could have swapped my water for sports drink quite easily had I needed to. I guess this is the sort of thing that happens when there are lots of volunteers, coping with lots of runners. Again, not horrendous stuff - but if I didn't mention it, this might sound like I was paid to write it
The medal is cool - bright pink ribbon, and chunky; and there was also a technical race t-shirt - in electric blue with the same pink, and white writing. The last few years it's been white cotton with a few logos - so this was quite exciting! The goody bag was also pretty cool. Cutting straight to the good stuff, there was a fake Mars bar, a bunch of Dairy Milk stuff, and a couple of Soreen things.
Race results were quick, but readers of my previous blogs will know that there was a bit of a cock up with my time, which has now been resolved. My guess is that two columns in a spreadsheet were matched up to the wrong bits of data, resulting in me getting attributed to the wrong result. All sorted
Would I recommend it? Yes, definitely. I know it's been picked up for being a bit pricy in the past (it's £41 right now for 2016 entries). You can certainly find great half marathons at half the price - but it seems to be well within the acceptable tolerance for big city races, what with all the road closures, and H&S stuff - and as far as those big races go, it seems to be well-organised, the support is great, and the t-shirt is ace
PS Here's the vLog, if you want to see a bit more, including the contents of the goody bag, and the t-shirt: http://www.fetcheveryone.com/vlog.php?week=17

Still waiting to get my result sorted - then I'll write up my race.
Legs starting to feel a bit more like normal now, and ready for another run tomorrow or Friday. I want another crack at half marathon! Just the full one to get past first, then the small matter of recovery.
Today feels like it was a busy day, but I can't think of any specific stuff that took up my time. I'm liking the way the 'Train' page is coming together, and I'm getting lots of PB data to play with.
I've also had a clothing mishap. My favourite pair of running bottoms (insert your own joke here) have a hole in the undercarriage. I've worn them for all my long runs, which is probably the reason they've worn through. They have big mesh pockets on the side for gels, so I'm crossing my fingers I can get another pair just like them.
My boy made a plasma cutter at cubs this evening. I don't know if they still do knots.

The provisional results have gone wrong somewhere. If you search for me by name (Ian Williams) it suggests that I finished in 2hrs13, rather than 1hr47.
It also suggests that I was wearing bib number 5520, so I looked it up on the race photo website - and I can quite see how they confused me with this runner:

If you click the 'Train' tab, and go into that page, you'll see that I've updated it.
http://www.fetcheveryone.com/training-home.php
Key things:
1) big long trail of small graphs on the left now exist as one big graph that you can page through using the 'Next' button.
2) Overall mileage totals for running, swimming and biking moved to the top of the page.
3) Training mileage league positions also moved to the top.
4) Recent entries from your training log visible on the left - click them to view in detail.
5) The "Who else is training" info is easier to see when you first arrive on the page - it's in a column on the right now.
6) Weight tracker slimmed down a bit (enter today's weight and it'll take you through to the weight page)
7) Annual targets - tidied up a bit, using less space for the majority of us who only have a running target.
8) Log out, and rather than a bunch of empty random weirdness, you get a nice promo image.
If you want to see the old version of the page, it's here:
http://www.fetcheveryone.com/old-training-home.php
The contrast between the old and new version is particularly clear when you're logged out i.e. viewing the site as a new user. My goal was to tidy things up for regular users, but also to highlight what's best about our training log for completely new users.
Feedback welcome.
*EDIT* also, for a bonus point, I've updated the page with all your training listed on it, so that rather than listing the entries for the current month, it lists the last X weeks, where X is the number you set up for your graphs on the Train page.
*EDIT TO THE EDIT* I've changed this so it now just shows your last 5 weeks.

That's nice. Like it when the change the jingles on the radio, it'll take a little while to get used to it. But it's better.Grid
One thing I notice - I did a 11.81K thing the other day, but on the train page I'm treated to the exact distance in all it's multi-digit glory - 11.81258496K. That's fun, but looks a bit silly. Could you hit it with your rounding stick?2:26pm, 3rd Mar 2015 -
(Interestingly, I've entered the run as exactly 11.81K so I've no idea why I'm getting all the bonus digits)Grid2:27pm, 3rd Mar 2015

Nice. A couple of observations: (1) all of the bar graphs have the numeric volume shown twice, once above and once within each bar, (2) the annual mileage targets need a bit of alignment, especially bike. The Ant Hill Mob

I was gonna write a blog when I made it back from Bath, with a bit more detail on how my race went, but I've just fallen asleep in front of the telly. I did manage to upload my training, if you're interested - maybe you can see how my race went:
http://www.fetcheveryone.com/training-log-view.php?id=11038641
A nice morning refuelling with a full English, and a quick trip into the centre to get some goodies for our boys, then a couple of hours driving. Something like normal service will be resumed tomorrow.
Nighty night.

I must run Bath one day. When I was about three I got lost in Jolly's on Milsom Street and ended up in the window display, much to the dismay of my rather strict grandmother. Hope you enjoyed itsallykate10:25pm, 2nd Mar 2015
According to my watch, I ran 1:47:49. I won't be able to check my splits 'til I get home. I was running at about 7:55 for the first six miles, but I had slowed to 8:06 by the time I'd got to 10 miles, and by a few more seconds by the time I'd finished. My left leg felt quite stiff, so I need to kick that into shape soon.
A bit more detail and a vLog tomorrow when we get home from Bath.
We got showered as quickly as we could, and crept to the restaurant to meet with the Jigses, and JenLov and her husband (not sure of his Fetch name?). I had lovely roast chicken, followed by honeycomb ice cream with stem ginger purée. I also had two glasses of red wine. It's my second drink of the year (after two glasses on Valentines Day), so that was a nice treat. And I didn't all asleep in my dinner. Lovely stuff, and some great company.
Thankfully we have another night at our B&B, so we don't have to face the drive just yet. Asleep by 9.30 I reckon
