Matt the Brum Well organised event on a lovely day. Started mid padk in a very congested start. Took first half steady (1:37). Legs felt ok so picked up the pace for 2nd half. Made up about 50 places in the last 10 miles. Finished 21st in 3:02:01.

Steve Zodiac Running and training for marathons was becoming too hard but I wanted one more sub 3 hour so I could 'retire' on a high. PHEW ! Just made it with 45 seconds to spare.

Crash Hamster I'm afraid I'm going to have to bore you all with a race report...it's 9pm, I have a celebratory Pimm's and lemonade in my hand (gay, moi?) and I feel absolutely fine at the moment...

Race morning involved the usual mixture of porridge, Vaseline and visits to the toilet. We drove to Stratford, had a nice chat with the world-famous Plodding Hippo then toddled off to the start.

Twas a bit crowded for the first two or three miles, but I was running on heart rate (150 as you ask) which should have got me to 20M in three hours...it felt so good at sixteen that I had quite an emotional couple of minutes as I realised that my sub 4 was on the cards. The next four miles were torture as I fought the urge to sod my HR and go for it.

At 20M, I reasoned that I had completed my IM training run and could now race a 10k. To borrow a phrase from someone whose marathon report I read before the big ones, I opened the taps and brought it home...thanks Ratcatcher :o) 51:51 down the Greenway, passing other runners all the way.

Final time was 3:51:41 (add 1 minute for clock time) against a previous best of 4:08:33...not bad for a fat blook :o)

Turbo doesnt count Fine to 19, ouchy calves from there on, should be happy after only 4 or 5 miles running in last three weeks but not, boo!

Tri Foxy Really enjoyed this race, I had not trained well so I did not have any great expectations. This was just good fun and everything that I think running should be about.

plodding hippo Bottled out of this 2 years ago-and did the half
First time ever of 3 marathons in 3 weeks
the 11.8 mile cutoff thing makes pacing a joke
but a sub 5.30 finish will do me just fine.Job done!

expatria DNF. :-( Hopped on curb at mile 17; stepped straight into a hole. Twisted my knee and ankle; may have stress fracture. Hobbled to mile 18 (actual time was 3:20 when I walked off, but did not want to list that as it would look like a PB); got lift from lovely medics. Cruised through 13.1 at 2:11, was looking @ 4:30 PB when I fell. I'm totally gutted. I need a hug.

Stratford: lovely, some hills. If you do 26.2 and won't have friends running with you, take music: lap 2 is lonely. Good conditions. Well organized, nice locals.

Iron Squishy Watch time! PB for me - really chuffed! Everything went well, bit worried that I'd gone off too fast as I was 9 min miling for first 6 miles so eased off a bit. Mile markers seemed to come up really quickly, knew by 22 miles that I'd do it!! Very tired, sore but happy!
