Tries in vain to think of cheese joke. Fails.

Actually I’ve just checked my log and I lied. He was pacing 36 and brought us home in 34:13. He was still amazing though.

When I was part of the core team at Rother Valley, we used to say to only pace a time that is a good few minutes below your current running speed. The fastest I ever paced was 24, when I was regularly running under 22 and it was comfortable but usually I would pace 3-4 mins slower than my current time. I think the most I've been away from the target is around 5 seconds, using most of the tips that Gobi and others have said.

We had one guy turn up to pace and was 2 minutes faster than he was meant to be - turned out he forgot his watch but didn't want to say. :-(

The closest I got was pacing 16.5x when I was a low 16.x runner.

There was very little comms as I ran but I nailed the pace.

Currently I pace the 20minuters and I'm in 17.x shape. Would happily do 19 if needed but no quicker these days.

I caught a youngster with about 1km to go today. I encouraged her to stay with me and have a sprint for the finish which she did. I checked the results afterwards and it was her 9th consecutive PB!

We're having a pacer event next week.
I was asked yesterday if I could do 40 minutes - I had to decline as that's quicker than I've been able to manage since February.😭

Mile End is a 2 lapper. Since I'm slow now, as I'm getting towards the end of my first lap, I've taken to encouraging the folks finishing their second to lap me. A couple of weeks ago, one of them came to me after I finished and told me that had helped him bag a new PB, so that was nice.

We had a 41 minute pacer yesterday. Our next pacer event will be the first parkrun in November and I hope to have a 40 minute pacer then!
