Today's suggested run brings some variety: I got 3x 3x15s sprints embedded in an easy run. Sounds good, I was going to do some strides in my easy run anyways but the pace is ridiculous. 4:45 m/m...
Yes! I've been following the suggested run for a few months now. Even though my watch is set to provide HR-based suggestions, that particular session is always based on a ridiculous pace.

HRV still balanced. Training is maintaining. Age related fitness is 58 so -5. I had a sleep score of 79 last night, for me that’s brilliant 🤩

NordRunner, yes, that's the only session that comes with pace, all the others are set to HR which makes them more appropriate. E.g. tempo at 165 BPM makes sense for me.
With short sprints, HR won't help though. It lags behind the actual effort so power would be a better measure for sprints. If it told me to do 9x 15 seconds at 300W, that would be doable. But Stryd data isn't used for the suggested run and my watch doesn't estimate power.

I think the ridiculous sprint pace is down to the VO2 max estimate of 52 which would give me a 10k time of 40 minutes. If my 10k pace were around 6:30 m/m, you could assume that sprinting is 1:30-2:00 minutes per mile faster. Which it actually is for me, my current 10k pace would be about 7:30 and I can sprint around 5:45, so just everything a minute slower than what Garmin thinks.

That's great, Ultracat, it's always nice to see that Garmin acknowledges the effort we're putting in.

After two short bike rides, I dropped to maintaining. I have been productive for a week, I think. Let's see if running gets be back into productive range.

Yeah, that makes sense, tipsku. One of the drawbacks of being awarded a flattering VÕ2 :)

VO2 max is a complicated matter. In lab tests 2013 and 2016, I got 56.7 and 56.8 so that's a large amount of oxygen I can use but my body isn't equipped to handle the strain of running that fast. I have the genetic potential to run a sub 3 marathon but I doubt I'll ever get there. Besides vo2 max, running efficiency, biomechanics, injury resilience, muscular power, etc. all play their part. There are many components to fast running.

The vdot number I get for my race times is usually between 44-47 so that's the effective VO2 max pace that my system can handle. You're only as good as the weakest link in your chain.

My body battery is 100. It seems a shame to get out of bed and spoil it. It's snowing. I should do 48 minutes at 10.15mm pace.

My body battery is 58. Obviously didn't work hard enough on my run! 😂

About This Thread

Maintained by EvilPixie
According to my Garmin this morning my body battery was at just 41 and I was "strained"
I have been strained for most days in the last 2 weeks
My body battery has also been low

So today it suggested a threshold run of up to an hour!

What's your Garmin say?
