The consensus of opinion is that Day One of Iron is the worst for DOMS. I didn't find it so...but then again I swapped Days One and Two around. AND I've still got sore arms and shoulders from Tuesday's Day 30 when I went for it. Will also reiterate that I think you get used to the intensity of the sessions fairly quickly if you space them out in a way that's right for you. Sorry if I've said this before but I found it interesting that the final two weeks I did five sessions each week without compromising my three to four dance classes and one or two track session per week. I couldn't do that at the start of the programme. |

I'm actually disappointed at my total lack of DOMS after day 4! Will have to up the weights a bit.

That's the circuits one isn't it sallykate. I thought your 6kgs for all bar the strict press sounded pretty good. I know you have shoulder issues and need to be careful.

Hi all, I've done 3 days so far of Iron and I'm loving it! No real DOMS, just feeling like I've worked the right muscles. I like the structure. I've got a rest day today then I'll do day 4 after my run tomorrow!

I kind of enjoyed day 1. I definitely feel pleased that I did it and really want to find the time to add strength work into my life so will try to continue on with the program. I didn't like that I found it so hard and couldn't do all the reps, even when I ditched the weights. I found the goblet squat (is that what it's called) very hard and one time that I got as low as I thought I should, fell back onto my bum! But I have to remember that I've had 2 years of being unwell and of course it's going to take time to get my fitness and strength back and I just have to be patient and persevere. |

It's brilliant you're doing it at all, Elsie Too. It takes a while to get accustomised to an unfamiliar exercise. Worth looking up pointers as to correct form for Goblet squats perhaps. You need to get the hip hinge right - that applies to all squats and deadlifts - and therefore the distribution of body weight as opposed to the weight you are holding. Don't go so low for the time being - just get the pattern of movement imprinted. x |

Before moving onto goblet squats, when I started resistance training, I had a chair to lower towards, Elsie Too - not to sit onto but to lightly touch and then stand back up. It helped to develop the right movement.
