I'm looking into various strength building programmes, because I have never taken this seriously, and I was hoping to reduce the number of injuries I've been having, and maybe to protect my dodgy back. I think calisthenics may be the way to go; no equipment (or very little) required, no need to go to (or pay for) a gym, no weights to scare me (rightly or wrongly I have a deeply entrenched belief that if I start to lift weights I will wreck my back).
Is this a good decision? Is anybody else doing this stuff (under any name)? Is there a better way?
Can anybody recommend resources; books, websites, youtube channels?

I've been doing exercises from the Simplistic Mobility Method (Tom Morrison), in an attempt to prevent ever having another slipped disc. It's working so far, and I think I'm generally moving better too.
A neighbour is running free calisthenics sessions in a local park, and I can see why it might work too.

The book takes you through week by week progression and has a test before moving onto next stage . I have it on kindle and paperback, it’s easier to use with paperback. YouTube content is simple advice from a down to earth experienced bloke with no bs ! ( if you can get past him being American 😉)

I'm doing Fitness Blender videos. They have a website and a youtube channel with 669 free videos. While they have also some strength training with weights, a lot of them are just with a yoga mat and body weight. You can set some filters, like duration, equipment needed, body area to focus on (upper, lower, core, total body), difficulty level, and type of exercise (pilates, yoga, cardio, HIIT, body weight strength, etc.). I pick a couple of videos every week depending on what I want to do that day. That's my generic strength and mobility training.
For running specific injury prevention, I follow James Dunne's Kinetic Revolution channel on YouTube. He is a former pro rugby player who is now specializing on injury prevention and treatment. On YouTube, he offers a lot of hip and core strength videos where you need no equipment, maybe some resistance bands.
I fixed my recurring ITB issues with his rehab programme. He has rehab programmes for almost every running related injury like runner's knee, ITB, shin splints, etc.
Runner's Connect is another good website who offer free injury prevention content for runners. I've done some of their cross training videos in marathon training to get through high mileage weeks without injury.

I’m another one doing the SMM from Tom Morrison, I got it as a gift. There are lots of free videos on You Tube. It’s definitely working on my flexibility.

It’s a program by Tom Morrison. It helps with strength, flexibility and mobility. He’s a bit like Marmite, you either love him or can’t stand him 😂. There’s loads of free videos on YT.
