Bit of controversy today with second place finisher not actually crossing the finish line

Surely if they didn't cross the finish line, then by definition they're not a finisher?

Last week at Juniors the last kid refused to cross the finish line. After much gentle encouragement, he just refused, although his brother had passed a couple of minutes previously. After a couple of minutes his Dad said to give up and picked him up and walked away, so the timerkeepers stopped, at which point of course he then wanted to cross the finish line. :)

I agree, person should have been asked to go back out and enter funnel in the correct direction, but then I am a bit harsh.

Zuiderpark this morning - collect a Z for my alphabet (23/25), and to complete my Cow.

Nice flat 2 lapper in a fabulous park. Weather was dry, but *very* windy - I could have done with a couple more layers! There a few running in vests, and I don't know how they managed it!

Volunteer team were kind enough to brief both in English and Dutch.

Naturally enough, there were a lot of tourizts collecting a Z - at 121, today was their 4th largest turnout ever.

A fantastic parkfaffery* for post-parkrun parkfaffing - the smell of baked goods is an excellent motivator for a quick finish. The omelette tortilla is a sight to behold.

*Or, if your prefer, cafe.

Nice to meet you dobbers at Lyme Park today. Easy to spot a Fetch Top in a relatively small crowd.

A few years back I was helping to officiate at a cross-country event and a woman approached the finish and then ducked out at the last minute (probably 10m or so back). She did not cross the line. Nowhere near. I thought she'd already crossed the line once and was then accompanying one of the her team-mates to the finish.

Anyway a bit later she approaches us and wants to be included in the results. I say no, you didn't cross the line.

Race referee decides to pander to her and give her the position she claimed she was. It still annoys me now, all these years later (as you can tell).

I think our first female finisher only did 2 laps instead of 3 this morning, looking at her previous parkrun results next to today’s . I wouldn’t normally be bothered except she will be recorded as first finisher when she wasn’t and also will be recorded as having our age grade record which at 103% is likely to never be beaten
