I haven't read this whole thread (and don't intend to).

Transgender athletes are going to kill off female sport if some rules are not introduced and stuck too. Scientific/biological fact has to trump choice if we are going to have male/female sporting splits.

That's without getting into the ethical and moral holes that will make doping look amateur that allowing a free-for-all in this area would usher in. They wouldn't allow biological tailoring in male sports and this is how this could end up.

There are a lot of transgender people who are worried about the self identification proposals, exactly because it potentially allows someone to take the p*ss as you suggest, and that just makes life harder for genuine transgender people who then reap the backlash.

Raemond - just as well Emily Pankhurst and all those other females throughout history that fought for women's rights didn't shut up when told to stop "banging on about injustice" (of women not being able to vote!!!!)

[Jovi - I haven't used the term cis man or cis women in this thread and will refrain from doing so. New words are invented all the time though, and in this type of discussion it can be a useful short-hand.]

Jovi, what exactly are you proposing to ensure that athletes overall are treated fairly, no matter what gender?

Badger - A,separate category for thos who are transgender. That would really help those transitioning from F-M who at the moment don't have a chance to compete.

As Vixx said earlier he will never be able to compete with male born men. Having a separate category would help those transitioning F-M & allow the protected male & female categories to remain.

The difficulty with that is that many transgender people do not wish to advertise publicly their transgender status, due largely to the high level of descrimination/antagonism towards transgender people in society.
I'm not dismissing your suggestion - it may be the only practical way forward, but it won't work for a noticable section of the trans community.

Scotland has the LGBT sports charter and many races up there (including Jedburgh Three Peaks, who were first) have Trans/Non Binary categories and prizes and encourage entries from Trans runners. It's been in place now for about 3 years.

If UK Athletics could look at doing similar then things may be very different. An RD friend of mine says that they are just now starting to show interest in looking at Trans runners. Why don't they just get on with it? Nothing in athletics or longer distance running in England or Wales can change until they change something, and that would be a start.

There are transmen in competitive sport, such as Chris Mosier in the US Cycling team. Even though our T levels are kept artificially lower he clearly has a talent. I just plod along and just take part.
