Coincidentally our club has mile time trials tonight. Last time I did one was c 2007 and I did 5 mins 35 secs iirc, albeit much of it steeply downhill and over what appeared to be a slightly short course. Tonight is on the track. My target is sub 7 mins. A year ago I'd have fancied it. Tonight I'll need a really good warm-up and someone to chase I don't like ;-)

I have just run my 1 mile. :-)
The running time was 8m57s. :-)
However, I had to cross a junction which was completely clear in the minute or so I was approaching it but a stream of cars came along just 1 second before I got there, and I had to stop for 52s. :-(
Do I record my mile time as 8m57s, 9m49s or use a benchmark from last week's training run?

Excellent that there's a thread for this. I'm looking forward to my April run. Won't be the first weekend though. At least I have a target to aim for. Won't be a personal best but hopefully a season's best. Currently have a time of 9:04 to beat. :)

Well done :-)
I used the trim function to get an exact mile, can you trim and merge your way around the stop Flatlander?

Thanks Dipps. I have an exact mile with an exact time, it's just that it includes a 52s stop. In a proper race, any stop time would have to be included in the result, but then in a proper race, it is rare to have to stop for traffic. ;-)
I am just wondering about the ethics of which time to use. ;-)

I’d say 8.57 Flatlander. As you say in a race you wouldn’t be stopped for 52 seconds.

Thanks for starting this thread. I wasn’t sure if I could use a parkrun mile. My fastest this month was 8.14. After my marathon I will try a standalone mile. Happily the mile is my third race distance of the year so I am a great blue shark:)

About This Thread

Maintained by Fenland Flier
For encouragement and general chat about the virtual mile challenges.

It's not easy pacing a mile race whether it's virtual or real, be it on track, road, grass or trail. Go out too hard initially and struggle towards the end, go out too soft and regret your finish time.

Use this thread to record your jubilation or allow us to commiserate with you.
