Reviewing my three 1500s this year, cadence is certainly where my change of pace would come from.

Nice work SPR. Good 400 too. Last year my pace was pretty horrendous just dipping about 60'' in 4x4 splits even though I've ran 54 at school. However, still ran sub 4.10 for 1500 so perhaps your issue is just lactic tolerance / speed endurance? It's where I suffer too but I'd say if you can run sub 60 for 400 and with a distance running background you should be capable of running a fair bit quicker over 15. |

PB - Thanks. That's a great conversion there! Specific work is what I'm missing (and have missed over the last few years due to no track) so it may be that simple. Niggles this month mean I haven't done any sessions apart from before my opener. I'm leaning towards my next race being an 800 so that will provide more data. I'd be very happy if with the right work I can take another chunk off my 1500 time (not necessarily this season). |

First specific endurance session for awhile for me today. 4 X (400m (1500 pace), 200 jog, 200m (800 pace), 3 mins rec). 70.73 33.57 69.36 34.83 68.70 33.62 69.52 35.03 As you can see 1500 pace was good, 800 not so good. Unfortunately interval mode doesn't show you your lap when you press lap, so I had no idea I was too slow on the 800 reps till after the session. For reference, my 800 PB is 2:15.1 so 33.5 per 200 and that was windy. My 1500 pace and 400 pace suggest it's a little soft as well. That's why I picked that session though as it targets what I've picked up as a weekness (pace on fatigued legs). |

Back to my best over 5k at parkrun this morning with a win in 17:20 (equalling my PB from last April). Got in a good battle for the win with my mate and a parkrun tourist (who looked like a young Greg Rutherford). Paced if really well for the course which has a bit of elevation up through the park twice, splits were something like 5:45, 5:42, 5:32 and a sprint where I took advantage of the tourist getting a bit held up by back markers to close the 5m or so he had on me. My first win at Hallam and just shy of an 80 parkrun age grading (79.90, might be better grading on Wava calcs on here, will stick it in as a race soon). Chuffed! |
