I forgot to add but I think you will all have got the gist of it, my pal, sadly passed away and was found by a passer by who tried to give him CPR. Sorry for the sad news guys but I feel it helps talking about it.

Gérard- So sorry to read about the passing of your pal. 50! That's soo tragic and far too young. It is right to mention it as it certainly does make you appreciate life and realise your own mortality. An interesting recap, consistently being consistent are the magic words and great to see you finish 2024 on a running high. Super 17 miler d&d. My race on Jan 25 is the Arc of Attrition 25 miler, run here in Cornwall along the coastal path. There's also a 50 and 100 mile option for the real maniacs. It's a UTMB event, so some big names from the ultra abd trail worlds are running including Jon Albon & Tom Evans. |

Blimey Gerard, sorry to hear that. You never know what's around the corner, what a terrible shock. I was a trained first aider for a while and they tell you that you won't be able to save most folks at CPR time, which i found a bit haunting. Went walking with SPO this morning so never got a run or turbo done, it's been a slack 5 or 6 weeks, but will have hopefully set me up for a better year in 2025.......I'm over 200m for December as of yday, and only need 5m more for 3120m. December would normally be 300. |

Sorry to hear that Ger, so sad for a relatively young man. I also had a running pal met many years ago, on a runners world thread, who had a major op to remove a tumour. He is very ill but has come through it. Hope 2025 continues your improving form 👍 LMH, the knee was fine but sore today. I cut my long run short as a precaution so a humble 40 mile week. Immense mileage TR, I'm likely to be around 2450. Interesting race OO. You'd think they'd add a mile to make the shortest distance a marathon 😉 |

Gerrard.. many years ago I got a call from a clubmate who had just lost his wife to cancer in her 40s'. He wanted me to go for a run just so he had someone to talk to about her. I had already been for a run but didn't have the heart to turn him down. Congrats on the 17m BTW, hope that helped. After returning from my family visit I only had time for 4.5m late afternoon today but felt better for it. Must say I'm not liking next week's forecast much. |

Sorry to hear about your mate Gerard. Glad that talking about it helps. Sounds as though you're all fired up for the new year after a good Xmas break. Are you planning to try to lose those 10kg? Thanks for the offer of help with Jersey marathon. My life is very uncertain at the moment but I will bear it in mind. I think the course might be a bit lumpy for me though and Jersey isn't cheap unfortunately. Sorry to hear that you had to cut your long run short because of your knee OO61. My left one was swollen and niggly after my 18 yesterday but a good dose of Fenbid gel and the raised end of my bed seems to have sorted it overnight. I hope that the easier few weeks will have shored up your immune system and sorted your niggles ready for you to smash 2025 TR. What's the weather forecast like for your race OuchOuch? |

Sorry to hear your sad news, Gerard. We never know what's around the corner, but as you say, if we look after ourselves we at least have a better than average chance. And, yes, TR, it's very rare for CPR to make much of a difference absent an AED, but always worth a go: if you can keep enough oxygenated blood going around the body until the ambulance gets there you've given them a chance... Mr J and I did look into a single-use one that can be linked to your phone to keep in the car (because even the AED is really needed in the first few minutes) but they were about £500 and single use. I guess that's cheap to save a life, but still quite a lot of money. DT19: I was running in a pretty busy park, so I reckon I said 'Merry Christmas' to about 20 or 30 individuals/groups, and would guesstimate about 2/3rds responded in kind. Well done on the 500th parkrun, OO61. What a beautiful setting for it! Good luck with the race OO. A fairly grim 10 mile LSR yesterday (legs were DOMS'd as hell after a tough barre class the day before), and a pleasant 3 mile recovery run this morning. |
