Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

For racing only, yes. They're nice and quick BUT I did blister with them on the upper side of my right foot when I did the marathon earlier this year. They've got a kind of support there which rubbed on me quite badly. I use the MagicSpeeds for general speed work, intervals type training. Those took 3 or 4 good sessions to brea in but now I love them.

Going to have a little pop at this again at ParkRun this coming weekend. More to see where I am at following four lower mileage maintenance weeks, rather than thinking I'm a shoe in for another PB. Not going to give myself any unnecessary pressure for sure.

Also going to add this in to see what, if any influence it might have - fetcheveryone.com/blog-share.php?id=494193

Got a 19:30 at the weekend. Happy with that as it felt controlled and comfortable. Obviously hard work, but comfortably so. Feeling that once I'm fully back up to speed with my next marathon block, I shoud be abe to pull the 30 secords or so back. A good start to the year I reckon. :)

Surprised myself with a 19:21 at Widnes parkrun on Saturday. I've had an odd period of running for me recently. An intentional lack of "big race" focus tipped over into a bit of general lethargy, but then surprised myself over Christmas and into January that a simple protocol of "run at least 3 miles every day" tweaked my mojo / psychology quite nicely.

But most weekends had XC races with the club throughout that period, though my heart wasn't really "in it" for most of them.

This weekend there was no race in the calendar, and my family weren't able to make parkrun, so I thought I'd give myself a "sighter" to see where things were at. Widnes is in the top 10 UK fastest courses based on the last set of data, but I could turn up there with a degree of anonymity as clubmates etc were racing the next day. Jogging to the start I tried to get myself fired up (I've been singularly lacking in the ability to dig deep recently, partly through lack of any "consequence" to my performances) and settled on "let's see how close to 20 I can get" as a target.

So was really surprised to be half way round feeling like sub 20 was relatively comfortable. There wasn't much left in the tank to squeeze extra seconds out at the end, others always have more of a sprint finish than I ever manage, but was a good reminder that it was only 9 months ago I was dipping under 19, so think I can at least make that a decent aim again.

Clearly the combo of consistent running and the odd "tempo" (via XC races etc) has worked. Now I just need to keep it up!!

Track session with the club tonight, 12x400m off 60s. Didn't want to overreach so intended 1:31-1:28 range. Ended up with the tidiest set of intervals I've done in a log while!
