One thing parkrun has done is get rid of the idea people are too slow for a club, those clubs near you need a good kick up the arse.

A club near us out an ad on Facebook saying "If you can run 9 min mile or faster for an hour, come and join us "
We put an ad out saying "if you can run 9 min mile or faster that's great, if not that's great too. Either way come and join us."

Show me a club that's within a reasonable distance that I'm fast enough to keep up with, then they've got a new member. I'll wait.

The only stipulation for the road running section of my club is that you can run at least 5K.

I was put off from joining my nearest club 10 years ago when I was told my 9-10 min Mixing was “probably a bit slow”. 10 years later and I’m even slower. The club is now much more inclusive and seems to genuinely welcome slower runners now - I don’t know for sure as I sure as hell won’t be setting foot in there.
It also put me off ever attempting to join another club as I’d always be wondered if I was tolerated rather than accepted.

Our heading on our club website. Our club split off from the local Harriers some thirty years ago, and hasn't looked back since.

I did have some gym coaching from the coach at another local club a few years ago. When he said off-handedly about 'mediocre runners like you' I knew I was right to have given his club a swerve!!

Different clubs have different goals, there are however clubs for everyone these days it is just about finding the one that aligns with your own goals and interests.

I have recently joined a club where I am not good enough to run at VETS league and I'm a 2.2X 800metre runner

That said LD - the club coach was rude, I can describe myself as mediocre he should have more class.
