There's good technique advice on the C2 website. In particular the page on rowing with greater intensity: concept2.co.uk Check out the PM3 from about 90 seconds in - she's a strong lass! |

CW, I don't think there's anything specifically about women that makes them use faster stroke rates as such but height and power are factors (longer levers and more power means stroke rate for a given pace is going to be lower) and women, on average, tend to be shorter and less muscular. I'm sure there are women who row and have lower stroke rates due to their power and leg length but there will be less of them. I got through the session tonight quite well I think. I could feel the weights session aches through the warm up but it faded as I got going. Holding the 2:08 pace through the 10k was ok. I actually managed 2:07. I also think I could have carried on when the counter reached zero but I was bloody glad I didn't have to! Rest day tomorrow. |

Another impressive session, Nelllers, especially after your weights session. That's a really useful link, Muttley - thanks for that! I've been struggling to visualise the recovery at a lower stroke rate and that demonstrated it really clearly. Lots to think about! Nellers, that makes sense about women's vs men's stroke rates. Though unfortunately it means I've got no excuse not to aim for a much lower stroke rate, as I'm 5'10". I had a go this evening over 5000m. Found it quite difficult to keep the rate low to begin with but averaged 22 s/m overall and finished with 1500m @ 19s/m. Pace was about 25 seconds per 500m slower than when I did a 5000m time trial the other week, but I'm not too worried about that at the moment! Have just watched the video and realise I need to slow my recovery right down as I find I'm killing time in the starting position waiting to start the next stroke. |

I appreciate that Cameron Buchan (THe Vlog guy) can be a bit annoying sometimes BUT.....Click into that video there about 5 minutes and see how a real proper serious rower blows through a 2km at the GB squad trials. Wow! |

Amazing! Interesting to see the variations in technique too. He wasn't bending his knees as much as I'd have expected, especially towards the end, but the drive was still effective.

Nice going Nellers. Having managed a steady 6km yesterday at a much slower pace I cant quite contemplate a 10km.. especially at those paces. Sat on a break currently ( crappy night shift ) making notes on Wolverine and reading through Cavistons supporting notes. Don’t think I can quite do 9 sessions a week on top of my current 5 runs. I’m going to have too shuffle things around or just probably burn out . |

Thanks, will have a look at those plans. Managed to do a bit better last night, 11.10 for 2k (still slow I know). |

Lesley, did you want me to add that time to the 2k league or do you want to hang on until you've had a few more goes at it?

Lesley, ... slow is always relative. I wouldn't worry about that. Just race yourself
