Garmin tells me that, in the last 17 days, my VO2max has dropped to a level below that in December, somehow magically undoing all the gains from six months training. 🤔

my VO2max never seems to change, but my 'endurance score' dropped like a stone with ~2 weeks off
I thought endurance was supposed to linger longer

My VO2max doesn't change either, apart from a brief blip up and straight back down a few weeks ago.

It's generally pretty slow, and it helps to use software that reveals the secret decimal places Garmin don't like to share. But this has gone from over 52 to a hair under 50, visible by any standards.

Since my Garmin quotes me a VO2max that's around 20% higher than my race times suggest, I'm not going looking for decimal places.

It would be the trend that's interesting, of course. In absolute terms, same here, but the changes have always lined up with how good my race performances are looking.

Have you had any significant changes in maximum HR (spurious or not) recorded by the Garmin? My understanding is that the estimate can be reasonably good, but is acutely sensitive to MHR, so if a hrm produces a dodgy value if can also throw the VO2MAX value out.

Good thought. No, I turned off the max HR detection some time back, when Garmin started trying to estimate it from runs that didn't get anywhere near max effort. Just checked and it is still where I set it manually, based on what I was seeing in sprint finishes.
I can see a spuriously high value just after a run, and some quite high but genuine values in an interval session on a warm day, maybe it'll move back after those are a few weeks old.

logging here because it rarely happens - 8 hrs 8 mins sleep score 90 :)

I am back in a productive patch and recovered and ready to go...

- wish my aged joints felt better :(

Good news RH!

About This Thread

Maintained by EvilPixie
According to my Garmin this morning my body battery was at just 41 and I was "strained"
I have been strained for most days in the last 2 weeks
My body battery has also been low

So today it suggested a threshold run of up to an hour!

What's your Garmin say?
