No.8 â„¢ Due to piss poor race organisation and the fact that there were no marshalls somewhere between 9m and 10m, I ran off course, down a dead dead end and around the houses, until I got back on course again (along with a few others). Covered 10.52 miles in just over 61 minutes....... would've been a PB, shit happens I suppose!

Monster Feet Not feeling great from early Saturday morning and still feeling bit rubbish Sunday, but really enjoyed the run and got progressively stronger throughout the race. Definitely could have done better, but first attempt racing the distance. Should start stronger from the start. Muddy and puddly, but good fun.

DrBob Set off quite hard, got to 5 miles in 30.08 which is a PB, 6 in 36.15 close to best 10k time, then slowed a bit. Marshall sent us the wrong way around 9 miles, ended up running an extra loop and losing a lot of places and time. Quite annoyed about this, wanted 61.30 to hit 80% on the WAVA scale, and finished in around 61.50. Would have been comfortably under but for getting lost :-(
Other than that, a good course, some of the turns were very tight and slippery, but they can't help the weather.

poppysox First 8M went to plan (59min). Hamstring started to go after this with shooting pain all the way up to my bum. Not risking any more serious injuries, so jog walked last 2M. 10M PB will have to wait for another time. Not too gutted as Marathon main focus and had a few good runs this year. Physio appointment on Tuesday so hopefully all will be sorted ASAP.

Sorry to all those who bet on me and lost!

sparky76 This was my first race official race since joining The Dunstable Road Runners group. They supported me and helped me with this race & I was pleased to take part & proud of my progress so far. I always hate the first few miles of races until I find a pace when I start to come into my own a bit more.

BrianJ Managed a good PB! Was even on target for sub 1:40 but body started giving up at eight miles - HR suddenly went right up, felt strange, got pins and needles in my arms and had to slow down. Maybe need to look at improving my carbo loading at longer distances, even though I'd had a normal breakfast. So I still think there's more improvement to be had. Soon felt better after some chocolate cake! Race itself was quite treacherous underfoot in places, the start was cramped, and not enough loos, but otherwise well organised once we were underway.

wizlyn Not great, but not dreadful either... not really recovered from last week, and breezy/muddy/twisty in parts. One to target next year for another shot at something a bit sharper... 5th overall tho.

Hills of Death (HOD) I was mega crap today I can only think it was my lack of carbs yest (long story) started very comfortable at 7.5 min miling. After 4 miles hit a 'wall' started doing OVER 9 min miling this has never happened to me before. I know I didn't start too quick. So well fu&*3d off.

Highlight of the day meeting No.8 (outside the sh!>3r)

The Outlaw Good start (1 mile @6:00, 2miles @12:00, 3 miles @18:10, 5 miles @30:30) , but then slowed, feeling tired and suffering from the cold/sickness I've had all week so I lacked the energy to push on. Unusually, I was caught by a few runners over last couple of miles. Lara came with me to the race and we met Chris and Anna, her old university friends - they both raced - and we went for lunch in St Albans afterwards. I also briefly met Juliusz and Martin from IBB pre-race but lost them in the crowd afterwards.

Tim of Fife Placed 413rd of the 912 finishers. Conditions were not great. A lot of this run was along predominantly muddy and uneven paths, made worse by lying water. And the gusty wind didn't help either. So, given the foregoing, I'm really pleased with today's time and a negative split. I am tired, but then I have had a string of late nights and poor sleep. Also, my legs are 'complaining', but I guess that that's the price you pay for only doing short treadie runs in training. (Mile splits - 8.34 / 8.02 / 8.16 / 8.16 / 7.56 / 8.02 / 8.06 / 8.20 / 8.16 / 7.44 - 1st half - 41.04, 2nd half - 40.26 = 81.32 = 8.09 per mile average)

Ultra Kanga Kazzaaaaah!! Don't bet on me for this one. Ultra training does not lend itself to fast racing!! - Yup, as slow as expected. More training run than race still enjoyable in a perverse sort of way!!

Lieutenant Lucerne One of those days. Started slowly and never really got going; in fact I was slightly slower than last year. After a couple of miles I knew that a fast time was unlikely, so it became more of a long tempo run than a race. Viewed in that context it was certainly worthwhile taking part.

MattTheRat Quite a good race. Busy start, but went out quite hard and got to 5 miles in 30:28. But then found it a bit tough after that. Mile splits down by 15-20 seconds a mile. Clawed back a few places in the last 2 miles and with a good finishing sprint managed to get a PB by 30 secs.

BigEvilC Just! 1st half excellent 33.46 split on for 1.07.32, faded a bit second half (especially mile 8-9) but managed sprint finish of sorts. PB by 6 secs I think. I didn't suffer from any of No 8 marshalling/ organisation problems and found organisation good and helpful on quite a complex course.
