I think I've commented on this before but DSDs and trans gender athletes (imo) is not comparing like with like and so not helpful. A recent blog examines the issues of comparing Caster's situation to Hubbard. It recognises the unfairness and difficulty for intersex athletes in competing. There's no easy answer and I found it thought provoking. The writer has the opinion that biological males should not be competing against bio women. unherd.com |

I agree MsG. DSD athletes are a separate consideration. |

Women with Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome are 46XY but I don't believe anyone informed as to what this means has any issues with them competing. Anyway as you say this is a different topic.

Not seen the Guardian take - but this is, presumably, the same story from a different angle (or, at least, by a different journalist) bbc.com |

I think that is a sensible guidance. Making a distinction between inclusiveness and sporting fairness is probably the way forward and in many amateur sports an Open category could be the way forward. Particularly in something like running where the value of age-group and gender prizes is generally minimal and 99% of entrants are not competing for these anyways. Having played for many years I don't believe Rugby is a suitable sport for Transgender athletes to participate in but think some other sports could accommodate Transgender athletes without impinging on fairness or participant safety. Note: I'm not talking about elite sport at all here. That's a different subject |

It feels like most sports administrators are coming around to the view of "this is really complex and we don't think we'll ever come up with the right answer" which is both likely correct and will also infuriate those with passionate views from different standpoints. Perhaps in 50 years we'll look back on the questions and debates being examined now and wonder how it ended up so complex when the answer was so simple. But I doubt it!

Pleased to see this sensible and evidence based report from the UK sports councils, and I hope they'll be there to advise and support individual organisations in their decision making.

I think the guidance is very clear that it is unfair to have males competing in female sports.

I think the guidance is very clear that it is unfair to have males competing in female sports. Difficult to unpick that without a forensic examination of what the term "males" means in your post. I wouldn't want to impute a meaning that you don't intend. |
