Looked like you took giant leaps in fitness last week Elsie Too so see it as consolidation. We'll see you back here before too long! x

Definitely worth taking the time, Elsie Too - sounds like you've been making great progress after some challenges so a few days of good recovery will be spot on.

Fuel sounds interesting, Pam runs - might have to take a look once I've made it through Iron.

Day 11 done this evening, legs and calves - proper burn in the calves sequence :-0 Probably not my best training idea after running a very hilly trail half on Sunday (1500ft of elevation) and last night's track session. I could definitely feel the fatigue in my legs and needed a couple of pauses in the finisher!

I've always found getting adequate but not too much recovery a tricky issue CasB. Three hard leg days almost on the trot (no pun intended) sounds tough. Think you had Monday 'off'?

Most of the athletics coaches I've had would schedule tough weights sessions after track or whatever - sometimes on the same day. But then I often trained with a group of twenty somethings who can do a lot more.... *wait for me, am little old lady!*

And that listen to your body thing - good advice on the face of it - personally it doesn't speak to me very clearly and sends conflicting messages.

Am debating whether to do Day 18 glutes today. The three first days of the week coincide with my fullest dance days - a long class each evening. CG has some version of legs- upper body- glutes, Mon, Tue, Wed. I've already aware myself an extra day's rest on Monday after a very busy weekend... but do I have another day off today? Thus slipping two days behind CG.

Aaargh! I just don't know! It's not important, my time is more or less my own as I am retired. I 'could' do the glutes session today... but 'should' I? It's not as if I have to prove anything to anyone!

If you feel like you want to do a session but not glutes, could you swap some about and do an upper body session today instead @Sharkie ?

Upper body yesterday, Elsie. It's planned so you don't attack the same muscle group on consecutive days (and that's why there's a day's rest before and after the full body days). It's probably better to stick to the order but have more days off. I think that's actually what most of us are doing - we have exercise aims (as well as life!) to fit in.

I do actually think three half hour sessions done properly is more than enough to get results. Probably two, too. One - not so good unless- like Ness for instance - you are doing other resistance work.

Having written that down I now see sense for myself!
I'm going to limit these last eight sessions to three a week - and make sure I attack them properly. No half measures.

Elsie Too Of course there are other extenuating circs where leaving a week between sessions is fine. I think defeating long Covid is one of them!

Sounds like you have a good plan there, @Sharkie ! Recovery is a hard one, I try to remind myself it's as much a part of getting stronger as the actual exercises as it's the adaptation time. Easier said than done though around all the other things we do!

Yes, Monday was a rest day, though more by luck as I was late back from work and we had no food in the house, so that took priority over Iron 😀 and was probably beneficial given track felt quite hard on Tuesday. It might have been okay with an upper body session but I'll just confuse myself if I start switching the sessions around. Today is swimming day, though, souch easier on the body (it just makes me hungry instead!).

About This Thread

Caroline Girvan - tiny but tough, sweet but strong.

Here's a thread rather in the manner of the Shred craze that swept Fetchland some years ago, or perhaps more recently (and less bossily) Adriene's 30 Days of Yoga each year. I found Caroline Girvan via geordiegirl (ta, GG!) and am well impressed with her workouts. I'm currently on Day 27 of her 30 day Iron Series and have STUCK TO IT. Wonders will never cease, I was beginning to despair of the likelihood of me getting any sort...
