Aw thanks lin50. I need that positivity! How did you feel being final finisher?

Lynn I really didn’t mind. It was a 23 miler and my aim was just to finish. I crossed the finish line right behind my friend and when I looked at the results a lot of runners were only a few minutes ahead. I always go out with a positive attitude and enjoy myself.

Whilst the thought of being last can be daunting, I work on the theory that the organisers should have put in place a time limit if they want to pack up by a certain time and as long as I'm back within that time, then I'm not holding anyone up.
I was last in a race a few years ago - an inaugural half marathon and the pack were much faster than me. I was accompanied on the last few miles by the marshalls who joined me as I passed them in turn. There was quite an entourage by the time I crossed the finish line to cheers and airhorns. It made the event memorable I shouldn't have been last, but the runners behind me pulled out one by one. I was too stubborn to do that and I wanted the medal.

I was joint last in a 35 miler - we hit the cut off for the last checkpoint, but slowed down even more than they were expecting in the last bit. Still got a cheer over the line and the medal - I did feel guilty keeping them waiting, but it was a nice day and they didn't seem to mnd.

I used to have a dread of being last until I was, only at a 5 miler but still. It was fine! The marshals were all really nice and I got lots of cheers when I arrived.

lin50, just thinking about doing a 23 miler is admirable!! I'm loving all of the positivity. The start waves for my race are going to be emailed next week. Eek. I'm predicting a time of 33 minutes and 30 seconds. I know that's slow, but I'm fat and I'm old. Hehehehe x

Erm, you’re not old Lynn. I hadn’t even started running when I was your age!
