5 mile run today and my 5k (3.11 mile) split was 33 mins 45 secs. Quite pleased with that as I wasn’t really pushing for a faster time today. Still a long way to that sub 30 though!

I cried off from my attempt today due to too much rain but I did a 39 minute 5k a couple of days ago, so a few seconds faster than last week. Good to see your improvements, N-o
You are doing well lin.

Dvorak
Think this thread is due a progress report from GM :-)

I tried something a bit different today. Something in a recent dino-blog had me wondering how fast I could cover a kilometre. Handily, my local park has a tarmac circuit of 497m (which encloses a football pitch). So, two laps and a smidgen, with a dip and a rise in each. My best recent km, Fetchstats indicate, was 6:08 in a fakeparkrun, I think.

I'd already run 6.5 km with a mate, at fairly easy pace, and meant to go out whilst still warmed up. But I waylaid myself with coffee and a biscuit and my hr dropped right down to 52 :-o So when I went back out I did some of those warm-uppy things like proper runners do. Then some more as I had to wait for a clear start. Too many people enjoying some nearly-sunny weather!

I was quite pleased with how it went. Pretty level effort overall, and a time of 5:24. Now, I certainly couldn't do another four of them, but neither was I burst at the end. Next: three and a bit laps, for a mile.

(And, ref McG's blog of today, I passed I think eighteen people (and several dogs) on a not very wide path over the two laps. No-one seemed at all bothered.)

That's an impressive pace, Dvorak. Sub 27:30 if you can extend it by just another 4k :)

I'd forgotten to update here so thanks for the prompt. My SB is now 36:38 so creeping nearer the big goal and also the 2nd mini goal (sub 35).

Dvorak, that's a very good result. What you could try is 3x1km. in say 6min., with 2 - 4 minutes of slow jogging or walking recovery in between; gradually build up to 5x1km. Another thing to try is the 1ml. and try to go under 10min., and if possible 9:40. You could use that as a time trial every 3 or 4 weeks.

That's a good idea, Ev. I think I'm going to try Dvorak's 1k time trial to start with.

5k in 33.14 tonight. Pleased with that and I know I could have pushed myself even more.
