That's good Lin - you must have actually been <I/i>running<> faster in the second half (something I've been thinking on and might blog about).
Well done Owlie, a platform to build upon.
Now, I'm going to be controversial here, and suggest that it is perfectly possible to pace a 5K properly. Starting too fast is not unavoidable! I don't think I'm some pacing genius, so it's something which should be doable by most. I have run over 350 5Ks, but y'know, it only took me a fraction of that to get the idea, and put it in to practice.
I'm not perfect, I don't get it right all the time. But by far the most of the time. When I did go wrong, it was usually because I'd decided to give it a go on a day when I didn't have it. But I've got better at spotting that early. (In full disclosure, my second best parkrun time was one where I absolutely got the pacing wrong. But, being in good form, and with the lift of it being an inaugural, with an overall "up" vibe, I got away with it )

I’ve done at least that many 5ks too Dvorak and really should know better.

Dvorak - yes, when I looked at my watch I was running sub 10mm in the ‘run’ intervals of my run/walk. I suppose I should add in some ‘proper’ interval sessions into my running programme rather than run/walk.

My 10k ended up being a run/walk but to no plan, Just felt it was a rubbish run. Got home and saw I was only 2 minutes slower than running it all on NYE so shouldn’t have beat myself up about it

5k seems to be taking me at least 42 minutes these days. I haven't done a parkrun since Nov 19 when I ran 36.48 and got up to 34.xx a couple of months before that.
I think that C25K gives a target of 30 mins so that's the golden time that so many of us strive for, not sure I'll ever manage it, but I'll keep on trying.

It might be a pipe dream for me, AR, but it's something to aim for. It's good to have a goal.

Looking at your training, AR, running very up and down last year. Also mention of glute pain. Lots of walking And a fair bit of cycling.
Goals: Its good to have a stretch goal, but maybe helps more to have a goal you can see, not just one beyond the horizon.

Alpenrose (nice name!), have modest transitional goals - your first may be sub-40min.; while aiming for that, try doing intervals at 40 min. pace - perhaps 1km. reps in 8min. initially. Once you've got to 40mins, set your sights on 38; I know you'll get there.

That's good advice. I've added the mile splits for a sub 40 5k in the "About this thread" box
