Forums would be mighty dull if we all agreed
I think mostly this forum gets the balance right.
Debate but be respectful etc etc

Very proud of my handywork!
Had to doctor a slightly sweary version of an inbetween christmas/new year meme of metronome's!

Nice
That parkrunforever thing sounds a bit like the Fetch donation scheme to me.

Interesting. In a similar way to Fetch they must be tempted to offer something to donors e.g. another colour t shirt or even just another symbol on their profile? I'd like to be able to opt out of their sponsor emails if I donated.

Can't you do that already, Dibble? I don't get any emails from parkrun or its sponsors apart from the one letting me know my time and place after I've run and the notification of t-shirts I can claim.
Ravelry has a similar model. Swathes of free content which is sufficient for most people, but a regular small donation unlocks potentially useful functions such as increased options for uploading pictures and allows people to satisfy the desire to make a financial contribution to something they value.
If there's a risk of the money going to more misguided health initiatives, though ...

parkrun forever seems like it is only a UK thing at the moment - no explicit mention of it in the Australian version of the letter. Just a mention of "greater financial control" which made me wonder who had control previously.
Australian version here. The website has the UK text. "It's an ongoing challenge, but I’m pleased to let you know that we now have a greater level of financial control over parkrun than ever before, which puts us in an incredibly strong position to bring parkrun to more people in more communities."

This seems to be a different email to the one I received asking me to donate an amount equivalent to my parkrun PB. That request struck me as odd since slower participants were presumably being asked to contribute more.

Merry Fizzmas :-)
The donate your time thing was going to Alzheimer’s research, rather than parkrun, flatlander.

Thanks Fizz, I tried to check the email but I'd already deleted it.
