@EarlyRiser - a belated welcome! I know the draw of of local run - I had a 10K race which for many years passed my home twice and I always went to do it despite not always being in the best of condition! If you have been running again since July you should be fine, just take it easy to start.... @OO61 - I got Redcar mixed up with Saltburn so the hill would not appear! You still recorded a very good time and a nice sign off for your marathon taper, taper, taper... @alehouse pleased your leg stood up to the driving - I had visions o that seat edge digging in. No more puns about your Bath exploits. @NZD sounds a bit more positive generally for you on the family front - hope it continues and you manage to get out again soon As @PeterFay said there is a lot of Covid about, my g'daughter has just gone down with it. @Solo hard times a coming! That's a tough schedule - what sort of distances? @Flatlander that's some inspiration! Don't think I could fancy taking up pole vaulting! 5 weeks for a marathon - pish, I did an ultra xcountry 43 miles on two weeks preparation - and vowed never to be so stupid again! |

apologies for absence - i have been a bit distracted - bad news, good news, bad news, good news sort of thing. Firstly I got the pathology results back - a squamous cell carcinoma Secondly they had successfully excised all the affected tissue and the surrounding tissue was clear Thirdly post op infection returned with a vengeance, by Sunday I was in a near collapse state as it overwhelmed my body. 111 service totally useless, emergency doctor never called despite being rotored to do so Fourthly the wonderful support team at the hospital coincidentally rang early on Monday morning as a courtesy check up and hearing my tale of woe had me fixed up with an appointment with the consultant within two hours and a course of various antibiotics organised Since then I have crawled under a duvet and let the good and the bad (me being the ugly) fight it out and it appears the good are finally winning. Moral to this tale is if anything looks remotely amiss, ask someone else about it, get it checked out. |

@Torque Steer Sorry to hear about the diagnosis of the lesion and the subsequent return of the infection, but good to hear that you are recovering well.

@Torque Steer that has been a bad time for you, and I am pleased that you are beginning to emerge on the good side of it.

Not the news that I was expecting to read, @Torque Steer ! Get well soonest! @EarlyRiser , re your 10k, I would suggest a couple of easy runs up to 8k to build confidence. Not much to be done about gaining fitness now! And on the day it is very much about pace, setting off well within yourself, which I am sure that you know. Will be pushing things quite hard in the fitness suite later; physio tomorrow. Wordle in five yesterday; not done today's. |

@PeterFay I hope your legs are remembering how to run a bit faster @Welshpoppy that sounds like a fairly comprehensive strength session. I hope the Achilles is behaving itself. @alehouse it sounds like you are getting in some good sessions in the fitness suite In recent weeks I have been very cautiously building the duration of the jog segments in my jog/walk sessions. By the beginning of this week, the ratio was 4 min jog alternating with 1 min walk (for 11-15 repetitions). There is no longer any trace of localised tenderness in the knee, though some slight (and puzzling) swelling persists. So far, I have been jogging on easy terrain. Today I decided I would venture onto the steeper fell sides. It was good to be out on the fells, but I am afraid that I am nowhere near fit enough to actually enjoy jogging on hilly terrain. I will be back on easy terrain for the near future. I think it will be an appreciable time before I am able to describe myself as a fell jogger again. |

Canute…Encouraging that the knee feels fine…and that’s with you being out for a decent length of time. It’s really nice to read of that progress. |

TS rest up and I'm sure you'll win the battle soon Canute at lest you enjoyed it. The fitness will come. I joined Keswick my 2nd claim club tonight for their hill trial. 900 ft in under 2 miles. Quite brutal but good to be in the company of such impressive fell runners. |
