Unsafe Breadbin
But I have heard tell of a 'chippy tea' - and it's not a joiner's beverage.

On the rare occasion that I serve cold food that's more complex than a sandwich on a plate, eL Bee! tactfully calls it "summer dinner"

I grew up in a household in which Diet Culture was prominent. A plate of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and tinned salmon drizzled with salad cream would give me flashbacks. whereas that would remind me of Sunday tea at Nana's and I'd be waiting for the selection of cakes to follow |

That was Sunday tea at my mum’s and was always followed by fruitcake, and preceded by a massive roast dinner about 4 hours previously

My grandmother was a proud and excellent cook and would have been mortified to serve up raw food. Besides, my grandfather wouldn't eat vegetables apart from tinned peas.

Having lived in Yorkshire for 40+ years now, I've basically been assimilated. So it's tea at teatime in the afternoon/early evening, whether it's hot, cold, or mixed! Of course, breakfast/brunch bacon, sausages and eggs can be served in a bun, a bap, a barm or a cob. And sometimes on a muffin, or even an oven-bottom muffin, both of which are basically also bread. On rare occasions, in a sandwich or butty, which if purchased from local bakeries may either be any of the above bread products, or sometimes just a couple of slices of bread! |
