When I was a child you either had school dinner or packed lunch, (but not school lunch or packed dinner) unless you went home for lunch/dinner. |

Mid morning snack used to be "nammit" on the IoW when I was a nipper. Glottal stop optional! |

For me its: Breakfast Lunch/dinner depending on whether it is a cold or hot meal Tea/dinner again depending on whether it is cold or hot. So dinner is always the main hot meal of the day whenever it is eaten. |

I would still class that as dinner |

Yes, for us dinner is the main meal, but not necessarily hot. We’ve been known to have dinner at lunchtime, but normally dinner is at teatime. |

The school I went to in South Africa was predominantly day scholars but there was a boarding section too. The boarders (and some day students) would have “hot lunch” back in the dining room at lunch time. The rest of us just had packed lunch (or purchased from the tuck shop) but I don’t remember it having a specific name like “packed lunch”

um
Nice easy southern breakfast, lunch, dinner here. Except as earlier school dinners & ladies, vs pack lunch. Tea - a drink with jam and bread (later afternoon) What puzzled me, when working north of the wall, was how fish and chips for dinner was always 'fish supper'. I've never heard of a ploughman's dinner! |
