Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I have a beach at the bottom of my street but it has never really appealed to me. It's not a lovely sandy one, the bottom is kind of sludgy and seaweedy. You can only swim there at high tide and I wasn't convinced it was deep enough. Today the dog was in swimming and it looked nice so I went and got a wetsuit on (we have jellyfish locally) and went for a swim. It was lovely. I even took the wetsuit off after a few 'lengths' along the shore revealed no jellyfish. I might need to keep an eye on tide times and start daily swimming.

Halfpint - I can recommend some water shoes if the sludgy stuff puts you off, i got some similar to these form amazon

amazon.co.uk

and they do help, especially if its slippery.

Thanks fraggle. I have some boots which I use for kayaking. I wore them today and they were fine. I have opted for the other local beach up to now as it's a proper sandy beach but the end of the road is so much more convenient.

๐Ÿ‘ my local lake is a former gravel pit, so the โ€œsandโ€ is a bit gritty so I wear them to protect my feet

Went for a bob about in the sea this afternoon, and found the water warmer than I've known it in the five years I've been swimming here. It was actually a tad too warm :-0

Almost any weekend or late afternoon to evening can be arranged. Also whilst camping.

Whilst camping sounds good

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
