Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It does didn’t it ? I like the sins of swimming across from one side to another - I think it’s fairly close to in-laws, so could use it as an excuse for a visit. Will run it by mr Frag …

Just had my first OWS of the year in the River Lugg. Really enjoyable but need to build up my tolerance. I think I was in for about 10 mins tonight. Went with a lovely group from running club so had a great evening.

I had an hour in the reservoir on Saturday. 35mins of proper swimming and 20+ of floating, sculling and generally messing about. I’d forgotten how much I LOVE loch swimming. Such a great time. :)

Word to the wise, though. We had a great (safe) demonstration of the effects of cold drop. My young lad (FlyingScotsman on here) swam the 35mins with me, got out and sat in the sun* for ¼ hour to warm up, got back in to swim 10 more minutes with me. We got dressed and by the time we got back to the Landrover (3mins uphill) he was doing that deep cold shivering. So he put on his fleece and woolly hat and 10mins on he was fully recovered. Fortunately we never go anywhere without clothing for all seasons….

*Air temp was ~27deg C

Meanwhile, I was totally fine. But I’m nearly double his weight, and most of the excess isn’t lean muscle!!

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
