Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Lovely morning sea swim for me. The water was so clear. Could have done with gloves as well as boots but my hands acclimatised after about 5 mins

LD-unusual for it to mess up then, my 935 gets very confused by breaststroke, even in the pool.

LD what's your kick off like?

My understanding is that detecting the kick off is one of the main ways that Garmins count lengths in pool swims. Where my 735XT overcounts it tends to be strokes where I've got a weaker kick off (backstroke) or where there is less distinction between my normal stroke and my underwater kick (butterfly).

Are dippers on here or is there a separate thread?

Just still buzzing from my river dip at the weekend, but it was most definitely not a swim!!

(few minutes of paddling/sitting/procrastinating followed by a controlled tumble in, SHRIEK then thrash my way back to the bank while my mate sits there pissing himself laughing... I'll get better at this...)

LD, do you stop and check your watch at the end of the pool? My vivoactive used to add an extra length every time I stopped long enough to look at it, it was registering as though there was an extra turn. Even if you just stop and swish your arms a bit the accelerometer will register the difference in movement compared to your standard stroke.

I think we've got two possible answers then: at the moment for some reason we're encouraged not to push off but to swim continuously (hence the rectangular, wide lap) and once or twice (maybe more) I stopped at the shallow end to allow other swimmers to go first. That might account for it. Thanks all.

LD, I had this issue at Hilsea Lido. This may not suit your situation, but I decided to pause my watch at the end of each length while I made my way across the width, then restart and kick off. It kept to the local requirement to do laps but I still got an accurate distance. It was 67m lengths, but relatively narrow, so that helped.

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
