My Garmin 735xt says it does pool and OW but some of its distances are way off. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Sushi.
Oh my 735xt doesn't seem too bad. Bit out now and again but not massively so.

Just stick any bottom of the range GPS watch on/in your towfloat depending on water resistance!

I reckon my 735XT is reasonably accurate and I like the stroke metrics. The stroke detect isn't great in the pool - but that won't be an issue of you mainly swim front crawl.

Someone on my local OW Swim FB group was asking about rash/irritation caused by duck mites 😮 not encountered this before, anyone for any prevention ideas ? Or is it just ‘one of those things’ so get used to it ?

We get duck mites down at Dedham when the weeds are high. Irritating! Basically it’ll be like itchy mozzie bites for a couple of days

We’re going to try those £1 efolating gloves to do a quick rub down soon as you get out of the water

Some of the swimmers also start to wear wet suits to stop it but I’m all skins so will try the rub down method

It’s annoying. Although good to understand when It’s likley to be worse. Right now in major growing season and through to probably late August

And also if we run to the sea to avoid that we face the jelly fish!

Gahhhh!! Bring back the winter lol!!!! I said to my swimpal today I miss the cold cold!

Ah, now I was aware of swimmers itch (but not ever had it) I thought the duck mites could be something different - thanks all 😃🦆🐌

Just to prove my point about my 735xt - I've just swum 1000m in the lido, ie 20x50m lengths. Admittedly we're swimming in a rectangle so you could add on maybe max 2m per length to account for the extra-wide lanes. My watch is set to 50m pool length.

So how does it reckon I did 1400m? Is it because it can't believe anyone would swim that slowly over 1km? ;-)

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
