Friends swear by some Vaseline round their nostrils too, Gordon.

lol given that i already wear goggles, have started using ear plugs, might now use a nose clip and/or vaseline, i think i might just go the whole hog and buy one of those old fashioned diving suits with the big helmet

Morning all. Im going to do a short sea swim tomorrow on the IOW (day visit to my Dad so must be short). Just want to see how it feels to swim in salt water and with waves to try and acclimatise for the swoosh...any advice?

Enjoy it!!
When I swam in the sea in Wales I found it very similar to the lake on a windy day. # The only issues I had with the salt water was a little chafing on my neck from the wetsuit that I never get in the lake. I guess a touch of vaseline would probably help with that.

Ah yes, now JulesR was saying not to use vaseline near the wetsuit? Baby oil only?

Or use bodyglide Katie, or maybe wear a buff?

Tick for body glide - the blue anti-chafe one is on Wiggle & does the trick plus helps get wetsuits off quickly if necessary

I can't remember the argument, but there's some reason for not using oil-based things like vaseline (and probably baby oil too) on a wetsuit, although I've used Body Shop body butter and that was OK, so maybe it doesn't matter?
Just bought some Wiggle blue body glide as my previous one was running out, although at the moment my local lake is as warm as a swimming pool so I won't be needing it for a while yet. 25.6°C yesterday
