GordonG - I use a nose clip for all swimming - its a bit of a faff but works well.

I wonder if it's pollen on or in the water? The lake where I swim normally has lovely clear water but so far this year the water has been distinctly murky. One explanation for this has been the high pollen count.

I really struggle with my hayfever after a lake swim. Came out wheezing badly last time and don't normally wheeze.

thanks to all those who provided suggestions about my sneezing problems. Hmm, pollen in the water. yes that sound feasible - i'll have a good think about that.
cheers guys.

Another suggestion Gordon: I use one of those anti-cold nasal sprays before I swim, it stops chlorine or other nasties irritating the lining of my nose. Forget what they're called, but you get them from Boots.

thanks NE. yes i use one regularly, but will now specifically take a shot before my next swim (though i was wondering whether it would all just get washed out, which is why i might also try Richard's suggestion of a nose clip.)
