Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Managed an impromptu lap of Heron Lake last night - wet suit not required... wish I had more time...

I'm planning my first open swim of the season on Saturday what with having been busy and away and nowhere here being open in the mornings before 10 and closing early.

I'm fairly sure it should be warm enough to go wetsuitless, but just in case I picked up a bargainously reduced sleeveless suit I saw in decathlon the other day - it claims to be for stand up paddle boarding (https://www.decathlon.co.uk/500-womens-kayaking-wetsuit-id_8502963.html I know it was only cheap to start with, and it was down to about a tenner) but I figured it should be fine to swim in, right, with arms and shoulders free?

It will be fine - probably not as buoyant or warm as a swimming wetsuit, but it will work. I swam in the early part of the season in something similar and it was fine.

You'll be fine!

RIchard, just seen your post. I am envious. I am really missing the lake. We should be there on Monday.

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
