Thanks Linds. I'd recommend it as a challenging swim - the boat cost from 20 mins South of Oban was £25 a head if you get 6.

That's a fantastic place to swim, I should think - a really memorable experience! Well done Jules!

That looks amazing JulesR, well done!

A proper sea race is going to be my target for next year :-)

Hello all. I did my first ever sea swim today (barring faffing about in the sea on holidays). My son has ended up in the sea the last few times we've taken the dog to the beach. Today he convinced me to get my wetsuit on and join him. I loved it heart

Reading back a few pages I am in awe. Top tips for a total beginner.

Nice work, HP :-)

I need to practice waves and stuff, I'm only used to calm-ish lake and river swims so far.

Having never swam in a river current before I'm after some advice.

Swimming upstream would I need to change my stroke, and increase the pull with a shorter entry?

Sorry Mother T, I forgot to answer your last post. I've only done one river swim but I didn't find the upstream section too bad. You notice the difference with the current but it didn't feel as though I needed to change my stroke at all.

Did my last long swim before my race this morning. Approx 3.5k in around 1:43. Felt a bit stronger than my last long swim and not as cold. Taper time now :-)

Well done & survived, jules, tidal race adventure under your belt, but I'll enjoy just reading about it..
& well done LN. Wondering where you're race is but failrly sure not in Dorset. You're well ready for it now.

I noticed slight advantage swimming with current in Peak District Derwent, not enough to affect stroke when I turned back. But it's a long slow flow stretch approaching mill. Not much help in your faster river.
Linds thanks I have swum with others a couple of of times which was lovely, but not regulars. Slightest excuse - we're back in pool.
I went in yesterday, no one around :-0 in Newtons Cove, very bracing 15, hope today try again with wetsuit for longer. Spooked by lurking/floating ropes from lobster pots.

Long post sorry

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
