Thats devastating. I noticed the boat had turned around, just thought he'd been picked up & was warm & safe on the boat. Too sad for words.

I went in sea straight after hill rep short run, longest time in so far, swam nearly a mile, about 40 minutes, god it's cold, I'm still shivering :-0 & one side of new tinted prescription goggles leak. Not sure what to do about that. & I might resort to wetsuit to keep warm & feel safer, can't swim parallel to shore where I live now, it was out alongside Portland Harbour wall, across the cove & back by rocks to steps.

Thank you :-), shouldn't whine about being cold, I do appreciate I'm lucky to have nice swimming close by & time to do it.

I think a wetsuit would be a good idea ferret, at least until you feel at home on that route. You are as always, amazing :-)

I see on Twitter that weather permitting, a woman is due to start her 'Arch to Arc' challenge tonight. Before she sets off they will hold a minute's silence for a man who died in the Channel last August, who was also swimming under this company's supervision* though not, I think, doing the A2A, and my clubmate. That's quite something for her to contend with, I'd have thought.

*There is no suggestion in either last year's tragedy or this, that the company was in any way to blame. It's just the nature of the beast: endurance athletes push themselves to the limit and sometimes I suppose, they push just that bit too far :-(. A friend commented that it's a struggle between determination and physiology and determination wins.

Gosh, you'd have to have some mental strength to start after that, wouldn't you?

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
