I've never been able to do the splits. I'm following your progress with interest, Iron_Mum!
I like being strong. I like the way my legs look for the first time in my life, now I can see muscle definition. Yesterday, I discovered that if I angle my leg *just so*, I can see both heads of the gastrocnemius muscle :) It's fascinating.

I am so inflexible I can’t even sit cross legged (this is a work in progress).

I can't sit cross legged or sit on my heels without my knees hurting and feeling stretched!
I used to be able to do splits as a kid as I did gymnastics (as well as ride horses)
I love the idea of yoga and want to do more but it's like strength work - I'd rather run!
Maybe when I go PT or retire I will do more as I will have the time

I hated my legs until I started sprinting. Perhaps 'hate' too strong a word barring in my teens and twenties, functional sure but aesthetically speaking I didn't like them much.

I now love the definition on my calves- gastric and soleus make such elegant shapes.

I really like feeling strong too and suspect my body looks better than it would do if I didn’t lift weights. I need to remind myself of this when I look at the flabby bits - I still look better than I did in my 30s…

I think that I'm in better shape and fitter now than when I was in my 30s. Definitely since I started doing the weight training. That was in 2011, I think.

I'm unlikely to be fitter in absolute terms at 59 than I was in my 30s, irrespective of my lifestyle, but I'm probably fitter relative to other people of my own age now.

I was very fit and strong as a kid
riding horses 2-5hrs a day, yard work, chucking 25kg bags of food on my shoulders to carry around without holding them, full bucket of water in each hand or a bale of hay in each hand
didn't think anything of it
then I started work and it all slowly went downhill from then. For 11-12 years I didn't really exercise at all then I started running
I have a lot of work to do to get near my old self but I am slowly getting there

At 70 I agree with Vrap. Perhaps a few areas I’d score a little more highly but on the whole I’m just preserving what’s left

About This Thread

... a weights wire for women.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.

Here's a strength standards for women thing Duracel found for us
