:-) Thank you.

I’ve been doing some training to aid my recovery and trying to strengthen my glutes, back, legs etc. I currently have some 5Kg dumbbells and a pull-up bar.

I’ve been doing 3 rounds of the below exercises (each exercise for 30s and then 30secs rest, 2 mins rest between rounds)
Pull-ups
Press-ups
Squats (10kg)
Calf Raises (10kg)
Hanging Knee Raises
Boat pose
Plank
Tricep dips
Lunges (left) (10kg)
Lunges (right) (10kg)
Mountain Climbers
Dumbbell side bend to push press (5kg)
Dumbbell Lateral Raise (10kg)
Alternating Bicep Curls (5Kg)
Dumbbell rows (10kg)
Floor press (10kg)
Dumbbell fly (10kg)
I may have got some of the names wrong!

So I’m thinking I might need some new kit as the 5Kg dumbbells are probably too light for the rows and the curls (although heavy enough for the lateral raises).

How would you enhance the workout? Change the set types? The length of the sets etc

How much weight should I be using for the exercises?

And then where can I get (cheaper) heavier weights?

Any advice appreciated!

If you can do lat raises with 5kg dumbbells you definitely need something heavier for other exercises!

In the meantime, you could do a strict shoulder press instead of a push press. And you could do skull crushers instead of tricep dips.

The other thing you can do is do slower reps, or do a 2 second pause at the top/bottom of the rep. A pause at the top of a row always makes me lift less than usual…!

CW: what are your goals, as in what do you want to strengthen for? What are you rehabbing? How long have you been lifting? Who wrote that program?

Have you been taught to lift or are you self taught?

Goal. To get strong and not break when running! It would be nice to get a bit of muscle definition as well. I am rehabbing from Achilles issues which is probably due to weak back/glutes so trying to strength everything.

I’ve been doing that program for a couple of months (it started out shorter and I’ve added to it. I made it all up ad hoc hence why it probably needs some enhancing.

I’ve never had any advice.

I’ll have to look up skull crushers!

I am starting classes at the gym next week. I have no upper body strength at all and decided best way is to be shown by a PT

It's possible to spend a fortune on weightlifting equipment. We've had several discussions over time about the most cost effective options on the market. For running S&C purposes, you can do a lot with bodyweight, 5kg dumbbells, a pull up bar and resistance bands.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.
