Interesting and thanks for the insights on that Meglet. I have a colleague who has successfully done the pleated variety, so will also ask her for advice as I don't like the shaped one quite as much. I think we have some florist's wire floating about the house when hubby was looking for something to shape the brims of a couple of his hats...he has a thing about hats! ;) He also has way too many of them too!!

Has anyone any recommendations for good sources of dressmaking patterns? Suppose someone thought they might like to make themselves a pair of summer shorts, where might they find a beginner level pattern? And fabric too? Asking for a friend...

Julie at Escape and create is very helpful, she lives in Girton and is lovely. If you speak to her, tell her I said hi!

Actually my first shock was .. how expensive patterns are!!

£15-16 for a Simplicity. Wow. Ok if you use it several times, but would you?
But ....it’s a hobby, not an economic activity. Keep having to say that.

Crikey! I saw someone selling old patterns, possibly used, online for £3 each and thought, "HOW much? You don't really want rid of these, do you?" Clearly I was mistaken :-O

Making clothes is definitely not cheaper than buying them! (Mostly)

Just had a pattern arrive for a wrap dress and it’s lined! (Couldn’t read the back very well online). Will need to find some lightweight cotton lining but it’s tricky to match to a fabric online!

I've been buying pdf patterns & sticking them together myself. Much cheaper. I made the MBJM four seasons shorts yesterday afternoon. Very comfy.
