Splendid, runnyeyes :)

I made felted Kindle cases a few years ago for my daughters. One of them is now under the table beside the sofa. I think that means it's in a sort of limbo waiting to be thrown out. It's quite pretty but we don't have any Kindles.

I got gifted this a couple of years ago and have a good dozen balls of it

I'm tempted to say, "Whang it on eBay," Pix (I had some of that in a greenish shade and couldn't do a thing with it.) Alternatively, some sort of household thing. A bed runner or small tablecover, crocheted (or woven) rather than knitted. It's not really suitable for clothing, it'll stretch something rotten with washing and wearing.

Alternatively, if you could snaffle a couple of balls in different colours it might be perfect for this technique. Very easy knitting followed by very easy sewing.

[Declaration of interest: I'm currently experimenting with that using cheap acrylic, and still at the stage of "acres of garter stitch stripes".]

I haven't just been looking at rotary cutters on line *cough*. Haven't decided what to do about a sewing machine, as mum is reluctant to let me foster one. And I don't have space. I need to learn sewing jersey, as all my clothes are stretchy - I'm guessing an overlocker makes a huge difference?

Lizzie, for a first sewing machine get a sewing machine not an overlocker because you can sew Jersey and use zigzag on a machine but you can't topstitch or add zips, button holes on an overlocker. The space dress I made was purely done on a sewing machine, it's only now that I've got an overlocker.
