Finally got my nerve up to try rowing this morning after my running injury on Thursday. I pulled my calf running in the cold and rain and although I hoped I'd be able to still row while it settles down I didn't want to deal with the disappointment of finding out that I couldn't so I bottled out of rowing Friday and yesterday.
Should have been more confident. I got into this lark because of an achilles problem and it rowing doesn't bother that then why would it bother the calf? 5 minutes to test it and the 30 minutes at r18 to give it a longer test.
All is well with the rowing world.

That’s great news Neller ! Really chuffed for you. I know what it feels like when it seems like all exercise avenues are closing down on you.

Yep, it's a big weight off my mind, and I've even tried air squats too so I can keep doing some other stuff around the rowing. Give it a week or so and see if the turbotrainer works too.
But no running until February at the earliest.

Aye Nellers, I've found this too. I've had dodgy all things leg-wise but the rower seems immune. In fact, that might be why I bought the thing in the first place but it was 14 years ago and I've forgotten now ...

I rowed 3,274m today to take my C2 log total to 800,000m. A fraction of many of yours I'm sure but it's led to an ambition to nail the million this year.
Kept the stroke rate low (18-20) and quite enjoyed it.
Really pleased you're still able to row Nellers. I must check in with my friend who can't run any more and bought a C2 a few weeks ago.
I remember exactly why we bought ours back in 2003 (I think): we were both fat and unfit! Plus ca change...

Just checking in. 401km challenge is going well. Day 15 today and 225km in the bag. Couple of days last week when I felt really tired and the row was just a long old slog. Felt good today. 14km at around 16sr and 2:12/500 pace. I need to get some kms in the bank this week as I am blood downing next week and I might lose a couple of days. Do I just suck it up and row a marathon on Sunday? Any tips from those who have done one.

Tip from someone that's never rowed a marathon: DON'T!
401km is a load to carry mate. Well done on what you've laid down so far and good luck in clocking the rest up.
SK: Is that lower rate feeling more natural and easy now?
I did a 50 minute session of 10 minute stroke rate ladders. Enjoying hitting slightly higher rates and varying the effort a bit.

Lower stroke rate is getting easier but I suspect I need to watch my form, to make sure that I don't just stop dead at the end of the drive. I also hate how slow I go! But I do find myself more willing to row if I know I don't have to bury myself in a hard session.
Downloaded the asensei app today, thinking I might play a bit with it next month.

"Pause at release" (otherwise known as "just stopping at the end of the drive") is a perfectly acceptable way of getting your rate lower whilst keeping a strong drive.
Ideally you want the same drive in terms of length and force as you'd do when rating higher, but you give yourself more recovery during the , erm, recovery.
When I do low rate stuff I do pause at "arms away", ie. at the end of the drive with arms released and out in front of me.

Glad your calf is ok whilst rowing Nellers 👍 I think I also pause a little after "arms away"
