Chaps, ladies, if we haven't covered this before -- how do you breathe on the erg?

On the harder shorter stuff, like the 750 metre reps of this morning, I found myself breathing in and out on the drive, and then in and out again on the return (26-27 spm). It felt like panting but I couldn't figure out a plan for a good single lung-filling breathe in.

Yep, I do double breaths when it's high rate, high intensity Muttley. Hard exhale at each end of the stroke I think, although sitting in my office chair trying to recreate it it feels very odd!

Lower rate stuff is a single breath per stroke, which always feels a lot more comfortable.

Longest session for a few months this morning: 3 x 30 minutes at r18 with 90 seconds to reset and drink in between. Felt surprisingly (and pleasingly) comfortable. Slightly quicker in each of the 3 pieces and averaged better than 2:14 so very happy with that.

Monster metres at low rate Nellers and progressive pace makes it even more satisfying! Good to see well done mate!

I did some high rate work today for the first time in 4-5 months, 6 x 500m with two minute rests, averaged 30 spm, it was bloomin' hard but strangely enjoyable and most importantly the knee was ok 😁

That really is good news Craggy, and 500s are tough!

Good stuff Craggy - my workout later is supposed to 4 x 500 off 2 mins rest. Will see whether I do that or opt for another slow one.

Hope it went OK SK.

I've had a couple of days off after getting jabbed on Saturday. Left shoulder still a little bit tender.

It didn't happen Nellers, I've only just stopped work and I have a huge headache. Ho hum.

Thanks Nellers and SK! Try again tomorrow SK, I'm sure you'll 'enjoy' those 500's! Hope you're back on it soon Nellers!

Muttley, I meant to take note of my breathing during my 500's but then forgot, I'll remember next time - I have a feeling I do the same as you.
