OK there was that one. I'll use dumbells thanks. There was another one on another month where she was swinging it between her legs and then up over her head. I realise I could probably either skip those whole videos or substitute something else in. You are right sharkie I don't need to spend money on a KB. I think isolation boredom has my internet shopping fingers itchy.

What Sharkie said. It just occurs to us as we were thinking of recommending making a DIY variation on a Bulgarian sand bag, that anyone out there that bulk bought a sack of rice like those in the news panic buying a while back, may well have been using it to work out with too Remember 1 litre = 1 kg. Bottles filled with water can be dead handy as improvised weights. A goblet squat can be done with all sorts of improvised things you can hold. |

Work out which muscles and movement patterns an exercise targets and you can always substitute something else. Variety is brilliant for fitness anyway.

Recommended starting weight for kettlebell swings for women is generally 8kg. That might seem a lot but the kettlebell swing is not so much upper body as legs and core. 4-5kg is probably ideal for upper body. I picked up one several years ago by Kelly Holmes(Tesco) that let you twist and take sections off so weight could vary 4-8kg which Im finding pretty useful now I don't have access to the gym and the whole range of kettlebells.

Totally agree with that, shyfire. The one kettlebell I own is 8kg ... but is in London and I'm not. There's quite a bit of technique involved with dedicated KB exercises and I think it's good to get a bit of tuition first from someone. |

My local gym has been streaming sessions. One of the instructors used 2 x 2 litre milk bottles filled with water as weights.

Thanks to Sharkie for putting me onto the Jennis app. I'm really liking it. I've taken her programme for month and adapted it ever so slightly to give my week some structure. There was a danger of me over doing it so a reminder to have rest days was needed. My rest days still include my daily yoga and dog walk. I need to think about the sessions that involve KB some more. I only have 1kg and 2kg dumbells so not really enough weight to improvise some of the KB exercises. I can manage for month 1 though so time to work out a solution. |
