We got a new oven yesterday, so I feel like I should bake something to celebrate... Just can't decide what.

A standard 4,4,4,2 spong to establish a neutral baseline? Or something more interesting?

I’d go for gooey brownies.. that’s more of a celebration in our house.

It took me three months before I would do a roast in our brand new oven. Didn’t want to get it dirty. 😩

I made guinness cake, by the way - nigella.com

It went down well in the office.

I also cooked sausages under the grill and one exploded a bit, so now we're over the 'can't get it dirty' phase already :D

I'm currently baking out Christmas cake (https://thekiwicook.com/2013/12/09/pineapple-christmas-cake/), mostly as a way to use up eggs!

I'm thinking of storing it in the fridge or freezer this year. This is the 3rd year I've made it in Oct/Nov (the 3rd year we've had chickens...), the first time was fine, but least year it went a bit mouldy as we had a warm and wet late-spring. I want to avoid that this time! The internet seems to think it will be OK in the fridge or freezer, so fingers crossed!

I've just thrown away last year's Christmas cake - we'd only eaten a quarter of it. No sign of mould or anything but husband (I don't really eat much cake) didn't want it. It had been in a plastic tub, not refrigerated.

Not going to make one this year.

I make mine in October, wrap it in a double layer of baking parchment and a single layer of foil and then leave it on a shelf.
Not had one go mouldy yet.

I love Christmas cake (without marzipan. Marzipan is just evil) but never make one as I would eat it all. Nobody else likes it in my house.
