I'll put some tape over it, like a headlight on a motorbike on a track day!

Hold on, hold on. This trapdoor thing. Shall I jump over to the HR thread or can you explain here? I thought 70-85% was a good place to be?

*oils trapdoor*

I wear my Garmin / HRM for races but ignore it. It said 94% I pushed harder. Fethers were lost, PB's were gained. Train to Heart Rate, race to exhaustion.

Hi guys - sorry to say this, but the whole HRM thing goes straight over my head. When I run I do have my Garmin on - but I don't look at it until I am finished. I tend to run as I feel.

I can't even begin to tell you how lost I feel at the thought of trying to work out HR stuff v my Pace.

I read an advert for some trainers abroad that said we should go back to running like children...i.e. FREE. Free from being told to slow down, e.t.c.

Horses for courses - BBLB, there are many people who reckon we train with too much technology etc. I think this thread has wonderfully summed up the fact that you have to do what suits you. HR works for some and not others it would seem. I nearly gave up on it last year. Thing is you have to forget pace and concentrate on effort, which can be very hard to start with, also the hard sessions ARE HARD!

I started using my HRM to make sure easy days were easy. I seem now to be accidentally using it to make sure all days are easy...

I may be misquoting or misrepresenting IanM inadvertantly, but I've been training slowly, learned to run slowly, and with my first serious race of the season only 11 days away I find I can't run fast anymore.

"Train slow to run fast"? Skollob.
